Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World Console Operator Job Description GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the operation of the High Voltage, Low Voltage, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning), Water and Pneumatic consoles. Coordinate resolution of any Power, HVAC, Pneumatic (PNEU) and Water anomalies with the appropriate department, company, and NASA. Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignment. Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate the CCC Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic consoles in a responsible manner. Create and control entries into the official systems electronic tie-in log (SETI) that provides an official record of each applicable systems operations. Direct/approve all switching on the electrical distribution system to isolate any faults/anomalies. Perform required test plans, validations, and work orders coordinating effort with BOSS Test Conductor via OIS. Work in concert with KCCS software personnel to create, expedite, and validate changes to system software. Work with Relay and Test in calibration testing of new and existing sensors and Field Interface Controllers (FICs). Performs required Software Integration Tests in conjunction with system engineering personnel. Control and monitor Air Handlers that provide comfort cooling and heating within parameters determined by Energy Management Department. Maintain accurate start and stop times in the AHU Automation program. Provide 24 hour real-time comfort air for KSC personnel. Originate documentation of requests for energy management. Start, stop, and monitor operation of HVAC equipment such as chillers, chilled water/condenser water/hot water pumps and other associated equipment, coordinating this effort with field personnel as required. Act as the central point of contact when the Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic systems incur a major system anomaly, providing documentation and information of BOSS and other authorized personnel, while recording actions in the SETI log. Control and monitor to maintain constant temperature and humidity in airlocks, high bays, clean rooms, computer rooms, and the radioisotope thermal generator storage facility, reporting and coordinating anomaly resolution with engineering and field personnel. Monitor Pneumatic systems and coordinate resolution of anomalies with CCF personnel. Monitor W&W/Firex systems and coordinate resolution of anomalies with W&W personnel. Coordinate resolution of Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic console anomalies. Restore power to optimum facilities as expeditiously as possible by utilizing the fullest and redundant sources of power available. Restore Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic systems to normal configuration when repairs are affected. Control all BOSS and contractor personnel assigned to work on system through issuance of work permits authorizing and informing each of the configuration and the allowed time for work. Maintain accurate and permanent records and logs of all faults, irregularities, changes in configuration, discrepancies, work periodic and annual maintenance outages and unscheduled outages. Impact all requests for electrical outages, cooperating with and assisting the Outage Coordinator responsible for scheduling outages. Provide weekly reports on all pertinent activities, (i.e. scheduled outages, unscheduled outages, generator support furnished, test supported, launch supporting, outage requests processed and any anomalies/irregularities to proper NASA/AF organizations). Utilize OIS-M system to support tests during operation of CCC consoles. Maintain communications with all organizations utilizing Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic to ensure optimum service and/or response to all emergency situations. Coordinate all requests for generator support. Coordinate appropriate personnel to assist in generator tie-in. Maintain accurate log of console operations and reports any console malfunctions. Maintain integrity of CCC consoles at all times. Maintain “pseudos” on all active KCCS console screens in agreement with the electronic power systems map board. Operate and assist in all verification acceptance tests of new equipment and systems. Monitor switching orders performed in the field on all active systems where sensor and/or control capabilities are active. Initiate Event/Close Call reports for Power, Water, HVAC and Pneumatic system problems detected by C-1W, C-1P, C-2 and C-3 console personnel. Comply with all CCC Desk Instructions and Procedures. Maintain logs and records, as required. Must maintain area permit(s) and certifications, as required. Required for performance of assigned tasks. Must obtain and maintain the JOCC Daily Console Operations certification and a minimum of two additional console certifications that consist of either: JBPN, JBEP, JSEP, JBAC, and JBFX/JBWC Performs other related and/or associated duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma plus Associate degree, or equivalent education/experience. Two years’ experience in Power, HVAC equipment/controls, Pneumatic, or Water equipment/controls. Prior certification/launch processing system experience preferred. Must possess good computer skills and be familiar with various types of communications equipment. Must be familiar with the operation of Power, HVAC equipment/controls, Pneumatic, or Water building automated controls. Must be able to obtain within one year of hire, a minimum of 2 console certifications (in addition to the basic console operation certification). Once obtained, such certifications must be retained.
