What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Writer position at Amentum?
Amentum is seeking a Technical Writer to be based out of Fort Belvoir, VA location.
As a Technical Writer at for Amentum’s Republic of Korea (ROK) Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Readiness program, you will play a vital role in planning, designing, writing, editing, proofreading, and finalizing of a wide range of technical documents and reports. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with project subject matter experts, ROK and US customers, and the client to create high-quality materials that meet the needs of diverse audiences. Additionally, you will engage in data analysis and information visualization, ensuring effective communication of complex ideas. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of our deliverables. The position requires excellent written communication skills, knowledge of technical writing standards, and proficiency in utilizing software applications. This position works directly under the supervision of the Strategic Integrator or as designated by the Program Manager or Deputy Program Manager.
Essential Responsibilities:
Technical Writing
- Coordinate with technical subject matter experts, customers, and clients to develop report layouts and outlines.
- Write, rewrite, and edit technical documents for various audiences.
- Collaborate with originators and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and data.
- Support project leads in creating supporting materials, such as illustrations, tables, graphs, and charts.
- Select appropriate layouts, graphics, drawings, and other visual aids to enhance publication objectives.
- Coordinate with ROK-US operational counterparts to lead data-driven projects, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining quality standards.
- Collaborate with technical professionals to produce specifications, manuals, reports, plans, training materials, and presentations.
Data Analytics and Information Visualization
- Utilize Excel and other tools to analyze data for reporting and data mining purposes.
- Conduct research, review historical data, and gather information through interviews and observations.
- Develop tailored survey and interview materials and perform analytical reviews of the collected data.
- Design and create presentations, reports, and other deliverables to present findings to stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Translate complex data into user-friendly text for various publications, including technical journals, user manuals, proposals, and websites.
- Evaluate data visualization and analytics requirements for existing and new deliverables.
Quality Control & Proofreading
- Conduct quality control reviews of project deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to guidelines.
- Review and revise technical manuscripts, manuals, assessment reports, courseware, and related materials.
- Collaborate with originators to improve clarity and consistency of content.
- Identify and address problem areas as they arise.
Knowledge Management
- Track and monitor the flow of documents from inception to distribution of final copies.
- Adhere to DoD regulations and guidelines regarding the protection of sensitive data.
- Establish and maintain an electronic and/or hardcopy data library of documents and work order files.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure project team compliance.
- Provide support to physical security officers in fulfilling contract work requirements.
Project Client and Customer Support
- Develop and maintain consultative and collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders.
- Provide routine updates to clients and stakeholders throughout the project.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned or requested by the Program Manager or client.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Ability to travel between CONUS and South Korea, if required.
- Active SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. TS/SCI eligibility is preferred.
- Maintain access to a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) for the performance of duties in this position.
- Possess a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, English, Data Analytics, Research, Military Leadership, or a related discipline, and at least 8 years of experience in writing, editing, conducting data analysis, and managing technical documentation for military capabilities and operational design reports.
- Proficiency in conceptualizing, planning, formatting, structuring, writing, editing, and finalizing technical documents, manuals, orders, specifications, reports, plans, exercise materials, procedures, and performance results.
- Excellent written communication skills, with knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of applicable military standards, policies, technical specifications, and data collection/analysis practices.
Preferred Requirements:
- Additional qualifications such as completion of Military Leadership Staff College programs will be considered a plus.
- Military experience in areas such as CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear), CWMD, strategic planning, leadership, or operational planning is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of DTRA CTR (Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Cooperative Threat Reduction) is highly desired.
- Previous performance or experience working with ROK (Republic of Korea) and USFK (United States Forces Korea) stakeholders is highly desired.
Minimum Position-Specific Training Required:
- Verifiable certifications in relevant DoD-approved professional training continuing education, or comparative substitutes.
