What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist position at Amer Technologies?
Position Summary
The position targets a scientist that has a strong background in geothermal fluids development as well as a sound understanding of what it takes to drill geothermal wells at maximum efficiency for energy transmission. This will the Project Lead Developmental Scientist (PLDS).
Essential Functions
- Strong technical & operational acumen related to geothermal drilling fluids and technology development
- Comprehensive knowledge of customer requirements, and market demands in US geothermal market
- Extensive business line knowledge (technical, commercial, operational, customer engagement) in geothermal
- Thorough knowledge of customer requirements and market demands
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal & external customers on technology related matters
- Strong background in geothermal fluids development as well as a sound understanding of what it takes to drill geothermal wells at maximum efficiency for energy transmission
- Background in conducting feasibility studies in a structured technology development environment
- Ability to conduct a thorough review investigation of the existing product line performance against the customer established KPIs for the supercritical geothermal fluid performance to determine gaps
- Familiarity with geothermal fluid factors to include temperature stability, lubricity, and lost circulation options
- Clear understanding of how the performance of geothermal fluids can be extrapolated for use in hot, dry holes and determine what may be missing in terms of having all of the components to deliver an efficient and cost-effective system of drilling supercritical geothermal wells
- Familiarity in use of stage-gate process to project charter to highlight the following needs for a system developmental project, to include:
o Identify the list of products / components needed to be developed, as well as existing gaps in the geothermal line as they pertain to the supercritical segment)
o Project the manpower and timing for development of each product / component required
o Determine the type of testing that will be required to prove the performance of products / components at supercritical well operating conditions
o Determine if evaluation capabilities can be contracted in the greater industry or if new test equipment needs to be built and if so, what are the desired parameters of the testing that is needed.
o Provide projected cost for each stage of the stage-gate project charter
- Conduct feasibility study followed by development of a documented stage-gate developmental plan
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Geophysics preferred. A background in geothermal drilling & drilling fluid designed, coupled with familiarity with technology development processes (stage-gate) & feasibility studies is required.
