We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Specialist II to join our Office of Publishing.
Reporting to the Manager, Business Analysis, this position is a utility player across two key functional areas: Web analytics, and digital advertising operations. The Digital Specialist II produces standard and customized web analytics reporting, configures and optimizes digital advertising campaigns, and plays a key role in the production and scheduling of email content alerts and newsletters reaching the Science audience.
This position sits in the Office of Publishing and is primarily related to supporting efforts to understand and monetize customer interaction with our digital content. The individual chosen for this exciting role will get the opportunity to support the growth of our full range of digital content, including the top-ranked Science magazine, our portfolio journals (Science Translational Medicine, Science Signaling, Science Advances, Science Immunology and Science Robotics), our Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program, News from Science, the Science Podcast, and more.
What You'll Do
- Produce clear, well-designed, and standardized reports readable by both a technical and non-technical audience covering all aspects of web analytics for Science.org.
- Serve as a departmental expert and superuser for the Adobe Analytics configuration on Science.org, a go-to resource for other analytics data users to help with report configuration and troubleshooting data problems.
- Maintain regular analytics dashboard reporting to meet needs of internal customers. Identify and recommend improvements in this reporting. Configure modifications/improvements and troubleshoot problems with these reports as needed.
- Interface as necessary with analytics and tag management technical support consultants.
- Coordinate and communicate with analytics users in other departments, internal IT resources, and data stewardship staff on system documentation, configuration changes, and system functional issues.
- Produce digital advertising inventory reporting to meet specific requests from sales team tied to client campaigns.
- Using client creatives, ad tagging, and other materials, create and configure client digital advertising campaigns in our digital ad serving system (Google Ad Manager) and via email using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Following a rigid schedule and production process, error-check and configure content email alerts and newsletters for mass distribution on a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule.
- Work with supervisor, content platform staff, IT, and external vendors as necessary to ensure availability of analytics data, providing detailed requirements for changes to site data layers, tag manager configurations, and other technical modifications.
- Provide back-up support for digital advertising operations across a range of activities as needed.
- Miscellaneous reporting needs across Publishing, and other reporting, data processing as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive university or college-level training leading to a Bachelor's degree.
- 4-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Functional understanding of web analytics technologies such as Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics.
- Understanding of the web traffic ecosystem including major traffic sources, SEO, SEM, other digital marketing techniques.
- Functional understanding of digital advertising practices and technologies such as Google Ad Manager.
- Proficiency with standard Office programs, especially Excel.
- Experience using data visualization platforms such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and how web applications work.
- Understanding and experience with HTML email coding and design, at a level sufficient to diagnose and fix problems with email display.
- Proficiency in using browser developer tools to diagnose and debug issues.
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to manage conflicting deadlines and requirements following internal priorities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with overlapping dependencies.
- Collaborative and flexible style, with a commitment to continuous learning.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $75,000 - $95,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
