Summary
A Survey Instrument Person/Rodman is a skilled craft position that supports the Survey department involved with the Construction staking/layout, boundary surveys, topographic/utility mapping, laser scanning and control surveys.
The I-MAN/Rodman will have many conventional and geospatial tools including CAD, GPS, laser scanning, unmanned aerial systems and 3D modelling available to utilize on projects under the direction of the Project Surveyor and Survey Manager. This position will be part of the team responsible for the construction of the new Washington State Convention Center located in downtown Seattle, WA.

Must be able to preform work and heights on a regular basis.
Operates surveying instruments, such as transit and level and/or electronic surveying equipment for surveying crew.
Marks measuring points with Keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks or stakes.
Places designated points and specified elevations.
Provides work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials.
Provide checking of as-built conditions that require the use of surveying techniques.
Provide quantity calculations as required.
Prepares documentation of surveying activities.
Maintain condition and adjustment of surveying equipment.
Must have knowledge of and ability to use all surveying equipment and techniques.
Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work sites.
Should be familiar with functional operation, adjustment and use of theodolites, lasers, transits, tapes, range poles, rods, levels and compass.
Compiles notes, sketches and records of data obtained and work performed.
May use small hand level for rough levelling work.

Other Skills and Abilities
•Must be able to legally work in the United States.
•Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.
•Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.
•Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and specialty bridge design software; must be proficient with MS Office.
•Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan and organize to meet project deadlines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None, but must work well with other Survey and Operations professionals on the project.
Education and/or Experience
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and notes. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to surveying and related calculations. Individual should some level of business acumen. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, reporting tools related to databases. Must have the ability to learn surveying software programs.

Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform.
Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 30 pounds and as much as 90 pounds with assistance.
Manual dexterity to hand-carry survey equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Must be able to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
Capable of safely and productively operating a man-lift.
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Survey Instrument Person encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site.
