What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior RBI Engineer position at American Bureau of Shipping?
The Senior RBI Engineer - AIM, will have the opportunity to contribute to various fixed equipment projects, including pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, and relief devices within our Asset Integrity Management group. The primary responsibilities are risk-based inspection (RBI) implementation and reassessment, damage mechanism assessment (DMA), inspection plan development, condition monitoring location (CML) identification, inspection data management system (IDMS), mechanical integrity assessment, and fitness for service (FFS). These activities, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of knowledge in engineering analysis, ASME and API codes and standards, and applicable regulatory requirements, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and creative, innovative, and forward-looking solutions.
What You Will Do:
- Develop RBI Methodology Documents, such as Management System and Technical Instructions specific to the client and regulatory requirements.
- Implement RBI programs in commercially available inspection data management systems (IDMS).
- Perform risk analysis, updating RBI inspection plans, and evergreening the RBI analysis.
- Verify RBI data quality and assumptions through quality audits.
- Participate in damage mechanism assessments/reviews and identify damage mechanisms.
- Participate/perform fixed equipment system and circuitization.
- Determine inspection and test plans for fixed equipment and piping.
- Lead a team of technicians, specialists, and engineers to perform data entry, develop corrosion loops and create piping inspection circuits.
- Document inspection reports and RBI data in electronic and/or hard copy format for on-stream inspections.
- Perform as a project management and maintain client relationships as well as support marketing and sales initiatives.
- Develop timely reports for the project management team, including the Gantt chart and MS Project.
- Provide QA/QC function and quality checks of project RBI deliverables.
- Conduct NCR review with the project management team.
- Develop methodologies for internal audit and conduct internal audit review.
- Provide RBI software support for the production system and troubleshoot potential issues.
- Participate/perform mechanical integrity (MI) gap assessments and audits.
- Define and execute strategies to systematically roll-over inspection plans.
- Develop work processes/flow and conduct training.
- Provide support for global implementation.
- Provide RBI support and training of inspection personnel.
- Assist with Inspection Information Management.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Completion of an engineering degree (4 years) from a University (B.S. or equivalent) in metallurgy, materials, mechanical or chemical engineering, a master's degree is preferable.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in ASME code equipment and piping in the oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical industries.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Certified in API 580 and 571.
- Experience with RBI implementation as per API 581.
- Working knowledge of ASME and API codes and standards.
- Ability to effectively utilize both qualitative and quantitative RBI analysis methodologies;
- Experience damage mechanism assessment and developing corrosion loops in the oil and gas industry.
- Experience and maintaining process piping systems and corrosion circuits.
- Working experience with conventional and advanced NDT applications and limitations (UT, PT, MT, RT, GWT, ToFD, PA).
- Working experience in inspection, test, and preventive maintenance (ITPM) development as applicable to the recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEPs).
- Experience utilizing RBI software systems, including Visions, PCMS, APM, Meridium, and other inspection data management systems (IDMS)
- Experience in fitness for service (FFS) as per API 579-1.
- Process knowledge of oil refineries, gas processing, and chemical plants is preferable.
- Certified API 510, 570, 653, ASNT Level II or Level III in MT, PT, RT, VT & UT is preferable.
- Strong spreadsheet, project scheduling, and database skills.
- Ability to create and maintain reliable customer relationships.
- The individual must be highly motivated and a self-starter.
- This position requires good communication skills, process thinking ability, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to lead contractors and subcontractors as needed.
