Job Summary
Responsible for specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control in a kind and caring manner.
Responsibilities
Properly start lab equipment daily; run and document controls; perform maintenance and cleaning of equipment as scheduled per written protocols.
Greet patients upon encounter, verify patient identity at each encounter, explain procedures to be performed, obtain verbal consent, and address patient questions and concerns.
Collect specimens from the patient utilizing the approved equipment, sequence, and procedure.
Draw blood from the patient’s finger, ear lobe, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
Follow established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
Perform authorized tests within the technician’s skill level as determined by education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
Report results timely and notifies providers of abnormalities.
Qualifications
Phlebotomy certification preferred
High school degree or equivalent
6 months to 1 year of related experience or training preferred
