Our Communications Teams is seeking an intern in Houston, TX. The Bear Bryant Awards communications internship offers the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization while working directly to promote college football’s premier annual Coach of the Year Award.

 

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. 

Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various fields, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 9/11/2023 through 1/10/2024
  • Hybrid position – some remote work, some in-person based in our Houston, TX office
  • May be required to work after hours on rare occasions for special events
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Work with the Greater Houston communications team to craft, implement and measure the success of a comprehensive communications plan that will increase awareness for the Bear Bryant Awards and other American Heart Association programs and events.
  • Develop unique and creative content for the Bryant Awards social media platforms, including strategy, content creation and monitoring.
  • Lead projects as assigned, such as sponsorship fulfillment projects and social media promotions for special events.
  • Traditional and Digital Media: Explore and engage new outlets, especially on-line media to targeted audiences. Research and monitor new media and promotional opportunities.
  • Research and prepare media and event background materials to support the Bryant Awards and other events and programs.
  • Draft, edit and pitch stories to local and national media outlets.
  • Maintain the integrity of The Association and Bear Bryant Awards brands by developing, reviewing, and editing communications and marketing materials.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a variety of mass and alternative media, including social media, and principles of journalism including news gathering, interviewing, writing and editing, Basic video, graphic design and photography skills desired.
  • Knowledge of AP style writing.
  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment leading multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Ability to plan, produce and implement communications and marketing efforts.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Animoto and Adobe Creative suite is a plus.
  • Some knowledge of college athletics.
  • Minimum availability 20hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
