We are hiring a Senior Vice President (SVP), Development, reporting to the Associate Executive Vice President (AEVP) in our SouthWest region.

 

This is a remote position with 30% travel within the SouthWest region states. The location is flexible with cost-effective access to travel across the region and convenient proximity to a major airport. The SW region includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming.

 

We offer a base salary with the potential to earn an incentive up to 25% of your base pay. The potential incentive is based on achieving certain team revenue targets.

Responsibilities

The SVP, Development is responsible for working closely with development leaders and staff within the region and National Center to develop and lead the region’s event revenue execution plan for core fundraising campaigns including Heart Challenge, Heart Ball and Go Red For Women, providing the field with consultation, training and business intelligence. This includes analyzing campaign data and trends, recommending, and facilitating strategies and tactics with the Executive Directors and developing, facilitating and evaluating functional training and education for Development and Field Operations staff.

 

The SVP leads the Development Consulting team as well as directly consults with identified markets on campaigns, planning and evaluations, market visits and ongoing revenue driving strategies based on best practices and organizational business plans. The overall responsibility is to directly drive and support the region’s overall fundraising capacity with bold growth across revenue streams and achieving overall region and association-wide goals. This position will lead 2 – 3 fundraising markets within the region driving revenue to reach their goals.

 

Here are some of the job duties:

 

Campaign Strategy 

  • Works closely with the AEVP, SVPs Field Operations and Development and national staff to develop strategies and implementation plans for existing and emerging campaigns to ensure maximum revenue considering return on investment, staff and volunteer capacity and operational requirements.  
  • Develops and supports implementation of strategies to grow the base of support through the acquisition, cultivation/renewal of company teams, event participants and individual donors. 
  • Continually assesses efficiency of plans, resolving and presenting course corrections as needed and ensuring that tools, resources, and training align with successful execution of agreed upon plans.

Field Consultation and Management

  • Leads all aspects of field consulting for Field Operations and Development and directly consults to identified markets.  Orchestrates consulting plans for campaigns with focus on top revenue and benchmark performance.  Drives specific actions and plans that have the best potential to move them to goal.
  • As a player/coach, develops/innovates, embraces, implements, facilitates, and evaluates effective processes to improve the competencies and capabilities of Development staff in achieving donor engagement, volunteer leadership and revenue goals.  Oversees and directly implements regular strategy meetings to ensure that best practices are effectively leveraged, timelines are understood and met, and gaps, potential issues and contingency plans are identified and acted upon.
  • Ensures close, regular communication with SVPs and Executive Directors so that action plans are understood and agreed upon. 

Fundraising

  • Ensure that the designated markets are successful in achieving the annual campaign goal.
  • Lead and manage the Executive Directors and corporate development team including recruitment and selection, performance management and development, and succession planning.
  • Work with Executive Directors to provide vision and direction for the assigned market’s unified health and revenue efforts. Oversee implementation of plans and strategy as appropriate.
  • Aligned with the market staff, recruit and engage medical and non-medical volunteer leadership in partnership with the designated markets.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate an integrated approach to strategically-aligned community health and development planning consistent with market, affiliate and association-wide goals.

Region-Wide Development Project Management

  • Support the region’s ability to innovate new solutions and optimize existing practices by project managing concepts from ideation to execution and evaluation.  Includes synthesizing ideas from brainstorming discussions, defining them into actionable plans and implementing them through effective collaboration and communication.

Business Intelligence

  • Regularly analyzes campaign reports and indicators to identify flags at the region, market and campaign level.  Raises flags and provides recommendations for the senior management team to determine appropriate actions.  Prepares campaign/revenue reports and materials for Board and Management presentations and meetings.  Ensures the integrity and security of donor information and adheres to established policies and procedures.

Core Training

  • Oversees and directly implements orientation and training to most effectively meet learning objectives within budget.

Internal Alignment

  • Ensure collaboration and alignment with national and regional departments and serve as the lead liaison with national consultants and the Western States team.  Determine, recommend and implement communication plans, strategy sharing and consistent messaging to field staff.

 

This position requires the ability to travel about 30% of the time within assigned territory and travel outside territory to attend indoor/outdoor event-related activities, training sessions, and/or meetings/conferences, which may involve overnight stays and/or weekends. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience that includes:
    • Demonstrated track record in setting and achieving bold fundraising goals on a sustained basis.
    • Experience recruiting, engaging and activating executive level corporate and medical volunteers.
    • Ability to influence others to action through crafting a shared vision and sense of ownership and personal accountability.
    • Proven ability to think strategically, analyze market data, identify key trends and have participated in the strategy development and execution of initiatives to achieve fundraising and operational goals.
    • Ability to credibly establish and implement a strategic plan across functional areas and teams in a complex and highly dynamic environment, effectively translating strategies to measurable goals and plans.
    • Highly skilled in organizational communication, change management, process management, team building, conflict resolution, and organizational agility. 
  • Ability to travel within the SW region states 30% of the time; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.

 

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, Communications and Marketing or related field.
  • Knowledge of the American Heart Association's mission and programs.

 

 

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range will be $149,100 to $203,800. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. This position is incentive eligible based on achieving certain targets.
