Digital Media Manager - Museum of the Dog

The AKC Museum of the Dog is seeking an experienced Digital Media Manager to spearhead the Museum’s daily social media, website maintenance, and marketing. This person will be tech savvy with a keen eye for detail, and the desire to innovate. As a small Museum, the ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments is essential, and self-motivation and initiative-taking are also key. This person will be given the opportunity to develop a marketing strategy on their own, with guidance from various departments and the Director. This person will also be responsible for daily social media posts, fielding responses to social media inquiries/building rapport with respondents, creating, and planning email campaigns, and keeping email lists current. This person will be required to take, edit, and upload photos and video on behalf of the Museum and create digital and (occasionally print) communications.

*This is a hybrid role in our New York City location. This position will be required to attend after-hours and weekend events throughout the year as well as select off-site events.

Primary Job Duties

  • Spearhead website maintenance, design, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead social media marketing and daily social media posts that align with multiple teams' goals.
  • Maintain the Museum's social media platforms including responding to inquiries from the public on the following channels: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Work with department managers to create and execute monthly e-newsletters, quarterly reports, and emails for various events and programs and as needed.
  • Lead and develop marketing strategy for events, public and educational programming, exhibitions, Membership, and overall Museum awareness.
  • Take, record, and edit photographs and videos to be used in digital and print communications and for marketing purposes. These will include photography of the collection, after-hours events, and more.
  • Create concepts for and coordinate production of collateral materials including exhibition and event posters, flyers, printed and digital invitations, and marketing materials. An in-house graphic designer is available to support certain larger projects like brochures and invitations.
  • Manage a marketing calendar with input from multiple departments.
  • Analyze, report, and present social media and marketing campaign results.
  • Conduct and coordinate a range of marketing support activities as directed. These will include attending events in person and dealing with the public, Members, Donors, and AKC Delegates.

Required Skills, Specialized Knowledge and Competency Requirements

  • Highly proficient proof-reader with the ability to write communications.
  • Experience building and maintaining websites, preferably using WordPress.
  • Experience building and maintaining marketing plans and strategies.
  • Knowledge of Constant Contact or a similar email marketing software.
  • Experience building and executing email marketing campaigns and newsletters.
  • Knowledge of social media and social media-specific marketing, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok.
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles.
  • Ability to take photos and videos of people, animals, events, and artwork on a mobile phone and DSLR camera.
  • Ability to support and build connections with the customer – in-person, on the phone, over email, and on social media.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Suite desired.
  • Ability to work after-hours and weekend hours as needed. Some travel is required.
  • Comfortable working with and around live dogs.

The salary range for this position in New York City is $60,000-$70,000 per year; however salary offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location.
