What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELA Teacher (7-12) position at American Leadership Academy?
American Leadership Academy is currently seeking a qualified an ELA Teacher (7-12) at our Glendale campus, West Foothills Junior High/High School, for the 2023-2024 academic year. The ELA Teacher helps ensure that ALA’s instructional model is fully implemented and that the curriculum fully prepares each student to be successful beyond their high school experience. Consistency in curriculum implementation and instructional delivery emphasized in this role. Candidate must possess, or be willing to obtain, a valid AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Meet with administration, teachers, and parents as needed on a weekly basis to address any curricular concerns or questions.
- Arrange curriculum purchases annually as needed based on student enrollment.
- Ensure compliance with curriculum and instruction, testing, and reporting as required by ASBCS and ADE.
- Attend Assistant Director meeting and ensure communication of deadlines related to curriculum, professional development, assessment, and instruction.
- Work with Chief Academic Officer to create instruction and curriculum training for ELA administration and teachers.
- Work with JH/HS teachers, admin, and the District Registrar to prepare edits to the course catalog. Provide proposed changes to the Chief Academic Officer for approval.
- Ensure that all curriculum resources are up-to-date and accessible by all teacher and administration.
- Ensure curriculum and instruction align with developmental needs of alternate courses offered.
- Meet with a representative sample of staff throughout the year to review curriculum and assessment data.
- Based on adopted curricula, create or revise curriculum maps and quarterly assessments for the new school year for grades 7-12. Curriculum maps must be created for each course offering.
- Collaborate with district Curriculum Specialists to ensure that all curriculum maps are vertically aligned.
- As needed, be available to mode the adopted curriculum in the classroom and to demonstrate the board-adopted instructional model.
- Train new administration, as needed, on ALA’s instructional model relating specifically to the delivery of instruction and curriculum.
- Monitor quarterly curriculum assessments and AZ Merit Galileo benchmarks on all campuses. Provide additional training, mentoring, and modeling based on results.
- Observe in classrooms to ensure consistent implementation of instruction.
Preferred Requirements:
- Degree in Education, Educational Leadership or related field
- At least 5 years’ experience teaching ELA at the 7-12 level
- Previous experience as an Instructional Coach
- Previous experience writing and adapting curriculum maps to meet state standards
