Grants Analyst

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research, and cultural institutions in the country. The Grants Analyst will be responsible for working at the direction of the Director of Post Award Grant Administration to conduct the daily federal grants post-award operations within the grants area while delivering excellent customer service. The Grants Analyst will help ensure that the Finance office is proactive and timely with all grant accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform the day-to-day post-award operational responsibilities assigned by the Director. Tasks include, but are not limited to, effort certification, the calculation of invoices and drawdowns, award setup, award closeout, month-end close, and other financial reconciliation tasks.
  • Conduct periodic reviews for assigned sponsored awards, including monitoring spending trends, overdrafts, resolving small balances on awards, reviewing of restricted budgets, tracking cost sharing commitments, and monitoring of subrecipient expenditures, if applicable, to ensure accordance with federal regulations and guidelines, including federal OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), sponsor specific, and institutional policies.
  • Maintain auditable records for federal grants, including invoices, reports, and sponsor and internal correspondences.
  • Assist the Director with training development and execution, as well as the creation and maintenance of job aids, procedure guides, and templates.
  • Ensure provision of excellent customer service to PIs, local research administrators, and sponsors in the ongoing administration of sponsored research by serving as an expert resource to the AMNH research community
  • Maintain current with federal and institutional guidelines through active participation in professional organizations and continuing professional education, webinars, seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.




Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of three years of post-award research administration experience.
  • Experience working directly with PIs and administrators to administer awards from a variety of federal sponsors.
  • Strong analytical and comprehension skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with Oracle or another financial management system.
  • Good written communication skills and the ability to convey complex financial information to individuals of various financial backgrounds.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost accounting and the financial requirements of Uniform Guidance.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience at an institution with a portfolio of >$5 million in federal funding is preferred.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) designation is suggested but not mandatory.
  • NCURA and/or SRA engagement preferred but not mandatory.
