Internship - Risk Mgmt & Insurance

American National Insurance Company was founded in 1905 and is headquartered in Galveston, TX, with several locations across the US: League City, TX, Houston, TX, Springfield, MO, and Glenmont, NY. Our Internship Program is designed to provide young professionals with corporate experience that is not offered in the classroom. In addition to supporting their respective department, each intern will have the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, volunteer within the community, and attend company sponsored social events.

Our 2025 summer internship program begins on Monday, June 2 and ends on Friday, August 8. Intern positions are paid hourly with a full-time schedule (Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week) for the entirety of the program.

Internship Program Eligibility Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited institution
• Must hold a Junior standing or higher (May 2025 grads are welcome)
• Must possess a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Must be able to commit 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
• Must be able to work onsite in the posted location of the role
  
  

Internship Department: P&C Underwriting- Agriculture & Commercial

Location: Springfield, MO or Glenmont, NY

Team Description

The Ag/Commercial Underwriting team plays a critical role in maintaining the company’s profitability through the use of data and analytics, leading to a more accurate and efficient decision-making process. Working as part of a cross-functional team, team members evaluate risk, set appropriate pricing, analyze trends and patterns, use predictive models to forecast future risks and trends, and enhance overall operational efficiency and effectiveness.

• Pursuing a degree in business, finance, insurance, or other relative business area
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstration of initiative
• Strong organization skills & attention to detail w/ high level accuracy
• Must be able to meet deadlines and balance changing priorities

What You Can Expect To Do In The Role

• Assist with pre-conversion and conversion transactions for SFP to Duck Creek and possibly Smart BOP (if needed)
• Assist with SFP Coverage Review Team work, allowing for temporary expansion of efforts to capture a subset of policies (for example, dairy farm reviews, greenhouse reviews, etc)\
• Dedicated Profitability projects, such as Blanket Inventory requests for largest policies, TIV updates for both Ag and Com policies, Agent binding authority mapping
• Clean-up projects that support profitability, such as Renovation Credit, UL Roof, RC reduction for older buildings/residences, Brushfire re-mapping, BAP Account credits

Salary for this position can range from $18 an hour for candidates who are minimally qualified through $24 an hour for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill, and education.
