Description
American Plastics is looking for high energy Buyer to join the Purchasing Team. Under general supervision, sources and obtains purchased components and services from suppliers at the lowest total cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need. Duties vary in nature requiring technical expertise, evaluation and ingenuity. Areas of responsibility may include purchasing raw materials, manufactured materials, various components, services and commodities. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
• Performs all sourcing and purchasing activities in accordance with current company policies and procedures
• Analyze quotations using fundamental purchasing principles/concepts/practices for cost/price and value analyses to select, recommend or develop alternative suppliers
• Negotiates all pricing for all outsourced materials, finished goods and/or parts in accordance with target costs and departmental goals.
• Check/approve purchase requisitions and/or payment invoices; direct preparation of and follow-up on orders to expedite delivery/shipment as required; obtain certifications of delivery and verify against on purchase orders as needed
• Ensure and assist supplier on relevant process, procedures and/or methodologies
• Develop and maintain necessary records of purchase, price, stock and consumption, supplier/vendor, specifications and catalog files
• Support and communicate with other functional groups so that development work can be completed in time to support project and customer needs.
• Responsible for continual cost reduction project ideation, implementation, and execution. As well as supports company initiatives around total cost improvements, supply vulnerability reductions, process improvements and supply chain improvements.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required
• Will use AS/400 in parenthesis
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with emphasis in supply and procurement, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• 5 years’ experience in purchasing (MRO and inventory purchasing a plus)
• Candidates will have spent time in a fast-paced environment, sourced and purchasing a large variety of different components, and has a solid track record of achieving strong year over year cost reductions.
• Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated proficiency with PC software (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.); ability to learn/use ERP system (AS400 experience is highly preferred).
• Minimum travel required
