Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial and Revenue Officer, the Corporate Relations and Business Development Executive is responsible for setting the strategy and directing ASA's non-member business development efforts, including identifying, nurturing, and acquiring new customers and business opportunities that drive revenue and margin growth that enables ASA’s mission. Current non-member audiences include industry/corporate, group practices, and hospital/health care institutions. This position will be the primary owner of the industry audience, manage directors who have the primary responsibility for the other audiences, and ensure the solutions for the non-member audiences co-exist with member solutions. The position is also responsible for identifying new target audiences and exploring new margin-generating products.
This position is responsible for revenue management from industry through development and delivery of sales strategies, programs and services, and product development that provide unrestricted and restricted revenue for the Society. In partnership with ASA foundation leaders, the goal is to build a joint development office that maximizes the ASA and ASA foundation expertise and leadership.
This position works collaboratively and in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure program development and delivery align with the Society’s strategy, mission, and vision.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
· Works collaboratively and in partnership with the senior team and cross-departmentally on all strategies that are designed to maximize non-dues and non-member revenue from corporate and business entities for the Society by identifying opportunities and methods to monetize ASA content and assets. |
· Researches, develops and recommends corporate and business development strategies that support the organization’s overall strategic goals in developing non-dues and non-member revenue. |
· Establishes annual revenue goals and budgets and develops and executes a comprehensive corporate relations plan and business development strategy to meet goals. |
· Cultivates and nurtures important relationships with industry/corporate clients, to identify opportunities to leverage ASA’s value proposition with their unique strategic objectives. Develop sales strategy and deliver proposals. |
· Product owner for all corporate solutions with responsibility for managing the life cycle of products including pricing, enhancements, and sunsetting as needed. |
· Work collaboratively with the meetings and events team to develop overarching strategy to deliver non-registration revenue. Continuously evaluate program structure and delivery, including the need to outsource work. Provide oversight of Exhibition Sales and Management, including vendor scope and management, to ensure sales and operations delivery align with member/attendee needs, exhibitor expectations, and ASA’s revenue goals. |
· Works collaboratively with education leader and Chief Finance Officer on Grant strategy and processes to grow revenue to fund education development for members. |
· Works directly with Marketing and Communications, AQI, Analytics and Research departments to integrate market research and analysis in strategic planning, product and program development, positioning, delivery, and marketing communications. |
· Delivers briefings and reports related to development activities to the ASA Executive Committee, Administration Council, and other committees as needed. Provide input to finance for reports, including monthly KFIs. |
· Ongoing collaboration with ASA’s foundations to support their financial health by development of solutions that leverage the strength of the ASA foundation brand. |
· Serves on various committees and workgroups and develops and presents recommendations to physician and staff leaders. |
· Investigates best practices and keeps apprised of industry changes, including the guiding principles for corporate support / ACCME guidelines, that affect ASA’s corporate and business development efforts. |
· Manages departmental budget and staff, including workload, workflow, mentorship and professional development - to ensure the department meets goals and deadlines. |
· Educate members on the value of corporate partnerships through partnering with Marketing and freelance writer on recurring Monitor articles (The Monitor is the official news publication of the ASA.). |
Position Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required. Master’s degree highly desired. |
· Minimum 12 years of relevant experience. Experience in business development, marketing and non-profit corporate development. |
· Minimum 5 years of director experience, including high level strategy experience. |
· Experience in medical associations preferred, including experience working with organizational volunteers and Board of Directors. |
· Experience conducting research, providing analytics and using databases required. |
· Experience using sales automation tools (i.e., Salesforce) required. |
· Proven track record in relationship building and growing non-dues and non-member revenue. |
· Ability to draft proposals, RFPs and other correspondence and make presentations to senior industry professionals and physician and staff leaders. |
· Ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders, establish trust and build long-term relationships. |
· Highly developed interpersonal skills, affinity for networking and demonstrated high level of confidence and poise with a strong customer service orientation. |
· Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with senior management, volunteer leaders and internal and external customers. |
