OVERVIEW
The Kiln Leader is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of kilns, draw systems, and conveyors.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Starts and stops burners in Kiln following a prescribed procedure; maintains constant temperature.
- Ensures the proper direction and flow of char.
- Stops leaks in Kiln with prescribed material and makes other minor repairs to kilns.
- Observes operation of furnace to detect such conditions as leaks, correct pressure, cleanliness and even burning, and reports any malfunction to Foreman.
- Observes and maintains operation of draw system and conveyors for proper operation
- Cleans dryer screens and brushes hummer screens.
- Starts and stops boneblack elevators.
- Adjust gravity separator- takes samples and checks density from separator.
- Distributes boneblack as necessary by means of conveyor system to appropriate hopper in prescribed manner.
- Keeps char flowing through dryers.
- Fills sacks with boneblack from gravity separator and screens to specified weight.
- Takes measurements of hoppers for stock.
- Takes samples, carries to laboratory and returns empty bottles as directed.
- Sweeps, rakes, shovels, screens and bags discarded boneblack.
- Assists other classifications as necessary.
WORK EXPERIENCES
- Must have 1 to 2 years of experience working in an industrial setting
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED is preferred.
ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)
- Must have the ability to regulate temperature in burners for maximum efficiency.
- Must be able to learn and develop knowledge of the complete char revivification system
- Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Should be able to work independently and also efficiently within a team setting
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs.

- Starting Rate: $22.69
