What are the responsibilities and job description for the 22-23 Emergency Food Netwrk Home Delivery Program Associate position at Americorps?
22-23 Emergency Food Netwrk Home Delivery Program Associate
Emergency Food Network (EFN) operates as a distribution center that provides food to 70 food pantries, meal sites, and shelters in Pierce County, Washington. EFN distributes 17 million pounds of food each year by procuring and transporting large food donations, buying staple items in bulk, tracking and storing government food, and growing food locally at our farm and community garden. In Pierce County, 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children are food insecure. This number is expected to continue to increase as a result of the global pandemic and economic crisis. Access to transportation has always been a barrier for receiving food at a food pantry, but right now, many more high-risk individuals cannot visit a food pantry and are in need of a home delivery. In our county there are only three food pantries with a delivery option and others do not have the capacity to create one during this time. Emergency Food Network has stepped in to assist these high-risk or home bound individuals by creating a Home Delivery Program that launched in May 2020. This program has grown quickly and is now serving 300 households each week. 71 volunteers have given 1,886 hours of their time making these deliveries possible. While we want this program to grow to meet the needs of our community members, our staff has limited capacity to manage the additional volunteer recruitment, recipient in-take, and the route construction that is needed to serve more households without the support of an AmeriCorps member.
