In order to be considered for this VISTA Leader position, you must have completed a full term of service as either an AmeriCorps member, NCCC, or Peace Corps volunteer. Harvest Against Hunger is a Seattle-based nonprofit that tackles food insecurity across 11/06/2023the country and hosts the Harvest VITA program, an AmeriCorps Cohort. The Harvest VISTA Program places AmeriCorps members at local hunger relief agencies in a variety of states (currently GA, MA, OR, UT, VT, & WA) where they create systems for produce collection, volunteer recruitment, gleaning and gardening. By design, specific activities vary by location to meet community needs and available resources. The AmeriCorps members develop relationships with local growers, recruit new volunteers, build effective transportation networks, and identify necessary resources to make these new programs successful and sustainable. Harvest VISTA Leaders are detail-oriented and community building centric mentors, who coordinate the Harvest VISTA Program. They use their previous experience within their AmeriCorps or Peace Corps service terms to support members, collect data, creatively generate resources, take initiative and collaborate with the Harvest VISTA team.
Member Duties : The Harvest VISTA Leader will support the Harvest VISTA team (co-VISTA leader, Program Director, and host site supervisors) as a mentor and another point person for full-time AmeriCorps VISTA members and Summer Associates throughout the year. Using research and data to drive outreach strategies, they will increase communication and outreach efforts of the Harvest VISTA program to increase awareness of the Cohort and it’s projects. With their co-VL they will optimize and deliver orientation to new members and host sites, build community, and share knowledge and resources with the team. They will use and develop program administration skills to maintain VISTA web pages, complete reports, communicate with VISTAs and supervisors, write newsletters and social media posts, and support VISTAs in writing blogs and resource guide articles. A strong candidate will be an excellent communicator, a team player and a creative thinker with a passion for social justice and equity.
