What are the responsibilities and job description for the SERVE Houston - Avondale House position at AmeriCorps?
Members will serve Avondale House adults and students profoundly affected by autism and other intellectual and physical disabilities through the implementation of healthy living activities. The primary focus of these activities will be on assisting with adaptive recreation, gardening, and cooking skills in our school and adult programs. These activities will enable Avondale House clients to practice and incorporate healthy habits in ways that meet each individual where they are developmentally and physically. Members should plan to be hands-on with Avondale House students (ages 5-21) and adults (22 ) who have moderate to severe autism, may be non-verbal, and oftentimes need hand-on-hand guidance through an activity.
Member Duties : As part of Avondale House school and adult programs, Members may also be asked to accompany individuals during Community Based Instruction field trips, assist with field days or Special Olympics, and other program events. There may also be instances where members will be asked to assist with classroom activities, work one-on-one with a student or adult, or take an individual for a walking break.
