Kid Power inspires youth leadership by promoting academic advancement, physical and emotional wellness, and positive civic engagement in under-served communities throughout the District of Columbia. Kid Power embraces youth voice and believes that every young person can become an informed and engaged advocate for change in their own lives and in their communities. Kid Power provides four core programs to address youth needs: 1) Daily After-School, 2) 5-week Summer Leadership Academy, 3) In-School Health and Wellness, 4) Alumni and Mentoring Programming for Older Youth. Programs are designed to help youth achieve success in school, meaningful civic engagement, healthy behaviors, and successful transitions into adulthood. At Kid Power, our AmeriCorps Site Coordinators receive a wide variety of professional development opportunities throughout their 1-year of service commitment. Kid Power staff intentionally work with AmeriCorps members to support their larger career goals. AmeriCorps members have received work experience for many relevant work fields: • Education • Non-profit Management • Social Work • Psychology • Community Development • Consulting AmeriCorps members will be assigned to an after-school site and help run daily logistics, help recruit new volunteers and resources for their school site, and will work directly with students each afternoon. Members will also oversee daily program operations for the Summer Leadership Academy while creating original content that is delivered daily to participants.
Member Duties : Each Site Coordinator will support after-school program delivery and community building activities at one school site for approximately 50-80 students during the school program year. Site Coordinators will work together to oversee summer programming for 100-150 students. Working with a team of other AmeriCorps members, Kid Power staff, DCPS teachers, and volunteers, he/she/they will ensure program quality, curriculum editing/implementation, recruiting additional program volunteers, seeking out and bringing in resources, parent engagement, maintaining and tracking program outcome and bench-marking data, and overseeing communication with parents, teachers, and partners.
