Job Description
Through the analysis of current spend, and an understanding of market trends this individual will be responsible for the development and deployment of the material sourcing strategy for their assigned commodity. Using their commodity expertise, the ideal candidate will support the Corporate Business goals which include supplier consolidation, superior supplier quality, process standardization, cost reduction; transactional cost removal and the development of strategies that improves the competition and position of the company.
Essential Functions
- Establish an effective process for the commercial selection of suppliers to achieve high degree of confidence in continuity of supply.
- Provide overall supplier management including ensuring performance to Key Performance Indicators and escalations due to delivery, quality, or invoicing issues.
- Establish resident expertise in the commodity through understanding of business requirements, market trends and underlying cost factors, and the effect on product quality and reliability in achieving company objectives.
- Develop strategies and identify global opportunities for assigned commodity which will position the company for growth
- Within assigned Commodity, negotiate Pricing Agreements and Long-Term Agreements with suppliers to realize planned cost reduction targets.
- Work collaboratively and proactively with Procurement, Supplier Development, and other Commodity Managers to identify process, sourcing, and contract improvement opportunities.
- Support integration of newly acquired sites into the global commodity strategy.

Preferred Competencies
- Understanding of the global supply chain competencies and economic advantages within the optics, machining, and electronics manufacturing.
- Self-Starter with strong ability to communicate in verbal and written form. Strong ability to follow verbal or written instructions.
- Able to solve problems by collecting data and using critical thinking skills.
- Able to use Power Point, Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Projects, and advanced Excel skills (for example the ability to use pivot tables, v-look ups, graphing and complex spreadsheets).
- Ability to effectively communicate data and input from multiple sources. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and/or bills of materials (BOMs) sufficient to facilitate preparing quote packages that include all relevant documentation.
- Ability to work with internal stakeholders and suppliers to obtain desired performance, quality, and pricing.
- Experience in leading cross-functional and sourcing teams with an emphasis on highly technical commodities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage / lead multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions.
Supervisory Responsibility – No
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours depend upon shift assignment. Overtime will be required as job duties demand.
Travel – International and domestic is required
Required Education and Experience
B.S. in business, science or related and minimum 8 years purchasing experience in a high-mix, technical, manufacturing environment, including five or more years of experience in Global Strategic Sourcing.
Additional Eligibility and Qualifications
M.S. degree is preferred.
CIPS, APICs and/or CPM or equivalent certification is preferred
Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean certification is preferred
Citizenship or VISA requirements
US citizen required
