As the Associate Video Producer, you will have a strong drive to help create fresh video content that offers a highly engaging approach to internal and external messaging and campaigns for the Communications and Outreach Division (COD) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). You will be part of a 30 member creative team supporting COD, working with videographers, video animators, motion graphic designers, video editors, writers/scriptwriters, and graphic designers to produce video products. You will manage and coordinate logistics and business operations regarding video production activities conducted at DHS S&T and other locations across the United States. Video products produced may include but are not limited to, the use of live-action video and/or stock-footage as well as 2D/3D animated characters, objects, and environments that accurately convey specific technical information and match the visual context of the videos and other media in which they appear. Desired candidates will be team-oriented and comfortable with assuming multiple roles to navigate video production projects through all phases from creative conceptualization to completion. This is a very collaborative environment. From a holistic perspective, you’ll always be looking to educate and support more junior members of the team and impart wisdom when applicable.
Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of video production and editing experience.
Place of Performance: This is a full-time position with benefits, and requires occasional work at our client’s downtown, Washington, DC office.
Travel: Requires periodic travel to capture video footage at technology demonstrations and exercises conducted in partnership with first responders and/or subject matter experts from other DHS components, federal partners, industry, and academia. Government partners include entities that could potentially require foreign travel. The successful candidate should hold a valid U.S. passport.

Desired Skills and Experience:
- Senior-level video editing skills utilizing Adobe Premiere Pro and other video editing software platforms.
- Demonstrated skills creating motion graphics and visual effects utilizing Adobe After Effects and other software platforms.
- Demonstrated experience lighting for video and video capture using a variety of ENG, Cinema and HDSLR cameras. Still photography experience capturing portraits and documenting events is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience recording and mixing audio.
Candidates must be able to provide video production portfolio samples showcasing examples of their videography, video editing, motion graphics design and storytelling skills.
- Exceptional communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrated abilities to elicit and incorporate constructive client feedback into video production projects.
- Demonstrated experience authoring video scripts that incorporate both original narration and interview commentary, along with detailed descriptions of onscreen imagery.
Highlighted Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Senior Digital Manager, Video Creative Producer, Video Production Unit teammates and other creative services personnel to help gather requirements, scheduling and delivery needs, and logistics for video production projects.
- Work independently as required to guide video production projects from beginning to end with minimal guidance.
- Serve as a video production technical expert alongside the Video Creative Producer and other members of the Video Production Unit within the Creative Services Team.
- Research and coordinate field production travel arrangements and costs.
- Research, acquire and utilize multimedia assets and utilize them to produce creative, innovative, and engaging video media products that meet client communication needs.
- Schedule, coordinate and/or facilitate audio/video interviews. You may be called upon to interview subjects from pre-determined set of questions, and at other times be required to research topics and develop original interview questions.
- Support the production of creative concept drafts and storyboards that provide a clear vision of proposed animations, motion graphics and video products.
- Edit polished video products utilizing recorded interviews, b-roll, stock media, audio commentary/narration, graphics/photos/animations, visual/audio effects, and music.
- Encode and distribute video files in a variety of formats to a range of platforms for specific uses.
- Help procure, document, manage and maintain inventory of video production resources (IT hardware, IT software licenses, cameras, lenses, lights, etc.).
All equipment and tools are provided by the Department, including cameras, lenses, flashes, remote triggers, stands, computer workstations, software, and accessories.
