SAFETY TECHNICIAN
Amsted Rail-Griffin Wheel, the leading manufacturer of railroad wheels in North America, is currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of Safety Technician for our Groveport foundry.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Develops coordinates and supports broad range of safety programs and activities through regular inspections, investigations, analysis, auditing, testing and training. This position will report to the Safety Manager at the Groveport facility.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develops, coordinates and supports the safety program and activities through safety contacts, observations, inspections, JSA reviews and revisions, housekeeping audits, incident investigations and participation in General Manager Safety Audits. Recognizes and reinforces safe work practices.
- Assists in tracking and maintaining safety program, policies and procedures.
- Trains or assists in training of personnel on assigned safety subjects such as personal protective equipment, fall protection, etc. Conducts safety orientations for new or existing employees placed in new working environments.
- Confers and communicates with department personnel, both management and hourly, to address safety concerns, investigates, reviews and responds to employee safety and health issues and prepares/develops detailed reports of findings and recommendations.
- Assists in achieving facility compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations. Applies Federal, State and Local safety and health standards. Maintains knowledge of current OSHA and other applicable standards.
- Inspects equipment and work areas for proper operation and safety requirements. Converses with operating and maintenance crews to check for unsafe conditions and notifies proper personnel when deficiencies are found or reported by other personnel.
- Inspects equipment and/or work areas to assure that prescribed repairs are completed, identifies problems and makes recommendations for solutions.
- Coordinates emergency response drills and/or emergency evacuation plans. Conducts follow-up evaluation and critique of the response with involved employees.
- Assists in the gathering and preparation of information for safety meetings and ensures adherence to monthly topics for reporting. Assists in the preparation and production of various safety videos used in safety training.
- Attends Safety Committee meetings. Addresses safety items and consults with managers for solutions and elimination of safety hazards through the development of JSA’s and elimination of safety hazards.
- Audits facility chemicals and reviews SDS documents to ensure all new products are included and training completed.
- Perform other duties as assigned
JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma, Advanced education a plus.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills and attention to detail, proficiency in computer skills to include, MS Office and database management.
- Communicates details of safety procedures clearly to employees.
- Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
- Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations.
- Exercises caution and alertness at all times.
