Amsted Rail Company - Griffin Wheel, the leading manufacturer of quality railroad wheels in North America, is currently looking for qualified candidates interested in joining our manufacturing group as a Developmental Supervisor at our Groveport, Ohio facility
Position Summary: The primary objective of the Developmental Supervisor position is to prepare talent for future leadership positions within Amsted Rail-Griffin Wheel through on the job training and aggressive performance management. Coaching and mentoring by the leadership management team is a fundamental element of this development. Candidates train/learn/develop and understand all aspects involved in the production, processing and inspection of a wheel. Once the development is complete, candidates will be able to move into a permanent role based upon the needs of the business, the competencies exhibited by the candidate and the contribution made to the business through completion of management objectives. Program duration is 1-3 years.
Nature and Scope: The incumbent is responsible to learn production, processing and inspection aspects of wheel manufacturing.
The incumbent gains supervision and leadership skill development while learning the technical processes of pressurized pouring, inspection and the processing of wheels and molds within the plant. Additionally the individual coordinates repairs to equipment with the Maintenance Department and coordinate department functions with other departments to maintain production and keep sufficient materials on hand for production.
Major interactions include: other supervisors and/or Team Leads; Maintenance Department for repairs of equipment and machinery avoiding production delay; HR & Safety regarding attendance records, disciplinary action, timecards, case management, accidents/incidents etc.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Schedule, coordinate and supervise in one or more of the following areas: Melting, Production, Processing and/or Mold Repair on a shift in order to meet production requirements and specified objectives.
- Supervise the pressurized pouring of wheels and processing of molds on a shift.
- Supervise and coordinate manpower needs.
- Train and motivate a competent work force to assure an efficient cost-effective operation.
- Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards.
- Promote good working relationships with employees and provide fair and equitable solutions for the Company.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or a related field with additional higher education and/or training a plus. Must be available to work all schedules as required, cross-train as required, and be able to display proficiency in the technical aspects of the area assigned. Must have a minimum of two years manufacturing experience and prior supervisory/managerial experience is preferred.
Evaluation Areas: The main training components within the Developmental Supervisor position are business training and job-specific training. Candidates participate in a combination of on-the-job training, classroom training, on-line training and group projects.
