Construction Project Superintendent

Compensation: Negotiable DOE

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer

General Description

The Project Superintendent will be for a Army Corps of Engineers Project. The Project Superintendent role is critical to Anderson Burton’s operations and project success. This role is responsible for communicating site rules regarding procedures to employees, and enforcing those rules. The Project Superintendent will work directly with the Manager and team to ensure that all of the project’s goals are being implemented by subcontractors and material suppliers. Lastly, the Project Superintendent will ensure that all projects are executed in a manner that exemplifies Anderson Burton’s mission, vision, and core values.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety and security of the project site and all visitors including owners, architects and engineers, inspectors, and any other authorized visitors. The Superintendent shall be responsible for the daily opening and closing of the project site.
  • Provide input on the overall project master schedule with the Project Manager and Scheduler, so that the critical path is determined.
  • Properly schedule and monitor the work of the crews, equipment, and subcontractors to achieve maximum production in the most efficient manner and in compliance with the project master schedule. Provide weekly 3-week look-aheads in compliance with the master schedule.
  • Overseeing work among all trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule, and all other appropriate matters.
  • Set up and maintain the site job office and equipment trailers and see that permits, labor notices, safety rules and regulations, and compliance material are posted in a conspicuous place. Set up and manage sanitary stations, water coolers, first aid, and fire extinguishers for use of project staff.
  • Understand, manage, and monitor Anderson Burton, Cal OSHA, and other general and site-specific safety plans and requirements, and ensure they are being followed by all site personnel and visitors.
  • Lead daily site safety meetings and review of activity hazard analysis reviews.
  • Install and maintain site safety barricades, signage, and other measures.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date site records including but not limited to: daily production reports, material and equipment deliveries, visitor logs, activity hazard analysis, site construction documents, as-built plans, and submittal records.
  • Monitor and ensure that site staff and subcontractors are well qualified and are effectively completing duties.
  • Provide a general layout and/or verification of layouts to ensure that the grades, dimensions, and locations are per approved construction documents.
  • Review site personnel and subcontractor work to ensure that work is being performed to the quality requirements of the project documents, Anderson Burton, and trade standards. See that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by both Anderson Burton’s crews and subcontractors.
  • Maintain inventory control over tools and equipment, ascertaining that movable tools are returned to the tool room and all other equipment adequately secured, on a daily basis.
  • Monitor subcontractor and field staff for any time and materials change order request and properly document.
  • Schedule and assist in municipal and consultant inspection activities.
  • Manage labor relations with subcontractors, trade unions, and others as needed.
  • Be responsible for the on-site implementation and management of storm water pollution prevention plans.
  • Perform variety of light trade work as needed to minimize minor trade subcontractors and facilitate project completion. Ensure strict adherence to ethics and administrative requirements at the project site. The above duties are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to define minimum activities. These duties may be altered to suit the needs of the Company.

Minimum Requirements 5 years of experience as a commercial construction superintendent or project management position.

  • Ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the construction of a project.
  • Ability to thoroughly communicate with site and office personnel.
  • Ability to communicate our plan and sequence of activities to all subcontractors and material suppliers to effectively implement our goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in the commercial building trade
  • Secondary trade schooling or college degree
  • A courteous and positive general attitude
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety construction techniques and experience
  • Previous work managing and monitoring project schedules using an online tool system
  • Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and general operating systems
  • Current 30 Hour CAL OSHA Certificate, First Aid & CPR Certifications. Training will be provided to the right candidates prior to performing work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $83,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
