The Metrology Technician II role will utilize metrology and calibration equipment to support and lead day-to-day activities within Andis. This role will also drive actions to achieve applicable KPI’s aligned to Andis’ organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Calibration
- Responsible for ensuring measurement equipment meets calibration requirements.
- Performs moderate equipment calibration and provides support for semi-routine calibration activities.
- Updates a status list with all records associated with calibration, preventive maintenance, and breakdowns.
- Develops and supports maintenance of calibration programs and are back up for internal and external calibration audit discussions.
Metrology
- Responsible for ensuring metrology measurement data is captured accurately and communicated effectively.
- Develops and supports the evaluation of metrology tools being considered for use or purchase and reports findings.
- Complete routine data collection using production equipment and moderately complex metrology equipment and communicate results cross functionally in Andis approved format.
- Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting data, analyzing results, and summarizing information and trends including but not limited to: First Piece Inspections, FAIRs (First Article Inspection Report), Capability Studies, Corrective Actions, PPAP’s, Gage R&Rs, and Continuous Improvement Projects.
- Reviews and completes assigned work orders in a timely manner to support Ad Hoc and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) turnaround time.
- Set up and operate a variety of metrology equipment and tooling using written and graphical information supplied from a CAD/CAM system.
- Develops and supports fixture and program development with several types of metrology equipment.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., scales, micrometers, vernier calipers, optical comparators, Tropel Flatmaster, Polytec Pro.surf Topmap, hardness testers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, thread gauges, plug gauges and other specialty custom gauges) as required.
Production Support
- Responsible for supporting production and quality investigations.
- Supports preventive maintenance of production equipment when deemed appropriate by supervisor.
- Actively engages Quality Engineers in the development, design, quoting and implementation of custom specialty gages.
General
- Responsible for assisting Metrology Department to establish a robust metrology and calibration system
- Upholds Andis Core Values in all work-related activities.
- Performs complex analysis on time which helps deliver Quality Assurance Department Metrics and Andis Company KPI’s.
- Performs all tasks in accordance with companies established policies and procedures.
- Works closely with Quality Engineers and Quality Management System Coordinator to develop quality standards and testing systems to reflect efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Associate (preferred) and or CMM and/or Calibration Certificate (preferred) minimum of 2 to 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Blueprint reading skills (GD&T) and basic math.
- Proficient in use of Solidworks (or other 3D CAD Design Software).
- Intermediate understanding of Minitab (or other statistical software).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Access, and Outlook.
- Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong desire and ability to work within a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong desire for growth and continuous improvement.
- Basic experience in project management.
- Basic understanding of ISO 9001 Calibration requirements.
