Partner 20, Corporate Accounting Manager

The Role
a16z is hiring a Corporate Accounting Manager to join an exceptional team responsible for all corporate accounting activities. The Corporate Accounting Manager will report to the Corporate Controller and will partner with the Finance leadership team to enhance and evolve a16z’s accounting infrastructure. The role will be responsible for overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, variance analysis, accounting reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivables. This person will ensure that our internal customers/partners are well-served with efficient processes and accurate data. This role also handles interactions with external entities such as vendors and agencies.

- Act as a trusted business partner to the Corporate Accounting, HR, Legal, IT, and Finance teams regarding financial transactions and impacts to month-end close
- Take point for communication with senior leaders and operating partners regarding sensitive issues surrounding tax, accounting, and treasury management, in a highly responsive, proactively helpful manner
- Oversee general ledgers activity for all a16z entities for GAAP and tax reporting
- Oversee accounts payables and ensure expenses are properly coded, approved and paid in a timely manner
- Oversee month-end close and implement internal financial controls as needed
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities. Address ambiguous problems that arise with limited direction and limited line of sight of how other areas within the firm might be affected.
- Direct and lead year-end audit engagements
- Ensure accounting processes are running efficiently for employees, vendors, and contractors
- Work closely with the Corporate Controller to evolve accounting operations and support new initiatives
- Work closely with the Fund Accounting team to monitor management fees and fund expense reimbursements
- Explore ways to leverage AI tools to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy
Critical Capabilities:
- Able to communicate complex financial accounting issues with clarity to senior leaders and operating partners, ensuring all stakeholders are well-informed and aligned
- Resolve customer service inquiries and issues related to financial transactions and accounting procedures
- Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP. Understanding of UK GAAP or IFRS a plus
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments and levels
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with HR, Legal, Tax, IT, and Finance to ensure the highest level of service and satisfaction
Minimum Qualifications
- 6 years of combined public accounting and relevant accounting experience
- CPA certification required
- Experience leading month-end close and accounting operations with a high degree of data fidelity and customer service
- Experience working directly with external auditors and tax advisors
- Experience producing accurate accounting records and reports
- Experience managing end-to-end AP and AR processes
- Demonstrated success in a high growth, dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Experience with accounting consolidations and intercompany transactions
- Experience in creating operational efficiencies and building best in class processes
- Workday Financials experience is preferred
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $167,000-$194,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.

Salary : $167,000 - $194,000
