Purpose of Position

The Business Development Officer is an experienced business development professional highly connected within Andrews Federal service markets with the ability to grow Andrews’ membership base by identifying strategic community partners. This key and highly visible position will engage leaders within these organizations, show membership features and translate them into benefits to potential prospects. Onboard these new members into our field of membership. Responsible for maintaining the existing Select Employer Group (SEG) relationships and the development of new SEG partnerships. Management of the SEG partnerships includes collaborating with leadership on communication strategies, leading presentations to show the value of an Andrews Federal membership, onboarding new members, and supporting business needs of each organization. This role will primarily serve the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia markets and will serve the New Jersey market when needed.


Essential Duties

The position’s essential duties include the following:

  • Develop and execute plans for the revival of dormant memberships and acquisition of new membership groups (local organizations, large employers, first responders’ organizations, schools, and health care facilities, among others).
  • Identify and cultivate new strategic community partnerships and members by frequently contacting and visiting these groups and promoting the benefits of Andrews Federal membership and its products.
  • Maintain positive relationships with existing membership groups by visiting and creating new relationships leading to membership opportunities.
  • Promote Andrews Federal’s products and services through in person visits, membership drives, and new employee orientations with selected community partnerships.
  • Increase participation from existing SEG relationships through membership and products per member.
  • Track, report, and analyze the effectiveness of business development activities and the impacts on departmental goals weekly.
  • Familiarize themselves with our branch communities and provide support for onsite and remote events.
  • Create and conduct presentations to show the benefits of Andrews Federal to community partners and SEGs.
  • Serve as liaison to appropriate internal committees and external organizations and leagues to facilitate Andrews Federal projects.
  • Attend community outreach and networking functions regularly.
  • Maintain Field of Membership section of the Andrews Federal Charter. Monitors SEG performance and ensures inactive SEGs and /or defunct businesses are targeted for reactivation or removal.
  • Support sales opportunities for all business markets in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, and occasionally the New Jersey market.
  • Complete Andrews Federal's Business Secrecy Act (BSA) training program which includes receipt of a satisfactory testing score annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required KSAs (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration or related field with 5 years of experience with financial institutions; credit unions preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in outside sales with a proven record of closing the sale.
  • Experience developing community partnerships and working with prospects to widen book of business and membership opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and exceptional organizational skills required.
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to understand the direction, priorities, and goals of the organization.
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding environment with high expectations of achieving results.
  • Ability to operate independently, and exercise significant latitude for independent judgment, discretion, and action.
  • Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
  • Accustomed to tracking progress in CRM systems, Synapsys helpful.


Physical Requirements

  • Position based in Suitland MD
  • Work activities may fall outside normal business hours (weekends and evenings).


The position is salary base with monthly incentive potential.
