Responsibilities:
- Act as Lead Designer on projects and design and provide initial sizing of structures using engineering judgement, computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations
- Create detail, assembly, and installation of 3D models, 2D drawings, and engineering bill of materials (BOM) based on given and derived requirements
- Prepare manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability
- Provide liaison support for manufacturing and assembly issues
- Provide Manufacturing Engineering support as needed
- Assist in researching pertinent data and developing solutions for the project or assignment
- Coordinate with other engineering, manufacturing, or specialty personnel to resolve problems, including execution to program schedule and cost requirements
- Modify designs based on cost and manufacturing capabilities
- Initiate complex repairs drawing for engineering repair dispositions for nonconforming aircraft structure
- Assure system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
- Manage project components including establishing task priorities, scheduling and tracking work assignments, providing guidance, and ensuring the availability of resources
- Implement creativity and flexibility in daily activities by relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
- Provide mentoring, oversight, and technical direction to less experienced engineers and drafters
- Multi-task and work under pressure to consistently meet deadlines
- Participate in ongoing design reviews/brainstorming sessions with engineers/designers
- Prepare project specifications and verify that design meets requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 7 years of work experience in aerospace structural design
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering from a US accredited college or university
- Mechanical or Aerospace preferred
- Expertise with at least one of the following software packages: Solid Edge, SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX
- Ability to work independently and self-motivate
- Applicable knowledge of aircraft structure, design, manufacturing, and GD&T principles
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair practices used in the aerospace industry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience in aerospace structural design
- Experience with NAVAIR or Air Force engineering and reporting procedures
- Experience with designing and substantiating aircraft repairs
- Experience in product development as a design engineer
- Composite material design experience highly valued
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen and qualify for Secret Clearance
