What you'll be doing as the Director of Clinical Services:
The Director of Clinical Services (Director of Nursing or Nursing Supervisor) reports to the Administrator/Regional Director of Operations, and is responsible for the direction, provision, and quality of nursing services for the hospice program in accordance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation and state licensure rules and regulation relative to Hospice Care.
This position is responsible for: the overall planning, supervision, and administration of nursing services including the hospice aides/ homemakers; the coordination and integration of nursing services with other hospice services to provide a continuum of care for the patient; the development of protocols for regular verbal communication, including case conferencing and coordinating care through the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and by other means between the nursing service and other disciplines based on the needs of each patient; the development of written job descriptions and performance criteria for nursing personnel; assigning duties based upon education, training, competencies, and job descriptions; and ensuring that nursing services are provided to the patient as specified in the hospice plan of care relative to nursing care and services.
The Director of Clinical Services must be available at all times during the operating hours of the agency. The Director of Clinical Services reports to and receives consultation, direction and supervision from the Hospice Administrator. In the temporary absence or vacancy of the Administrator, the Director of Clinical Services is authorized per the Board of Directors to assume the role of the Administrator and is responsible to perform the duties as outlined in the Administrator’s Job Description.
What we're looking for:
- Registered Professional Nurse licensed by the State Board of Nursing.
- Bachelor of science degree in nursing and two (2) years of combined public health nursing and progressive professional responsibilities in public health nursing; OR
Three (3) years combined public health nursing and progressive professional responsibilities in public health nursing.
- Because the Director of Clinical Services may be required to assume the role of the Administrator during a vacancy or temporary absence, the following minimum requirements are also needed:
1. Education and Experience
- a. Master's degree in administration or a health-related field, and at least two (2) years of supervisory or administrative experience in hospice care or in a health care setting; OR
- b. Baccalaureate degree in administration or a health-related field and four (4) years of supervisory or administrative experience in hospice care or in a health care setting.
- Experience with pain and symptom management interventions preferred.
- Experience dealing with Medicare Hospice standards and State Hospice regulations.
- Demonstrates organizational and leadership abilities.
- Demonstrates a broad base knowledge of community health nursing and competent clinical skills.
- Demonstrates ability to be able to work within a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Possesses understanding of Hospice philosophy and needs of terminally ill.
- A professional attitude and demeanor and be able to communicate effectively and relate courteously and cooperatively with patients, caregivers, colleagues, supervisor, co-workers and all others is required.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, valid auto insurance, and reliable transportation for field use as needed.
- Possess satisfactory references and pass criminal background, national sex offender, drug and motor vehicle checks.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting. Also required is driving, writing, speaking, relating to others, making independent decisions, listening and finger dexterity, and the ability to lift and carry.
