Summary of Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for various aspects of the monthly financial close including close management and review of journal entries and reconciliations prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants. In addition, the Senior Accounting Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Accounting to prepare various financial schedules for monthly and quarterly reporting purposes. The Senior Accounting Manager is also responsible for management reporting, audit support, subsidiary review, and will be involved in strategic and department-specific initiatives.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Directly manage team of Staff and Senior Accountants
- Prepares and manages monthly and quarterly close timelines
- Responsible for preparing key financial footnote support and SEC tables
- Interfaces with external accountants for quarterly reviews and annual audits including preparation of required schedules and analyses; general audit support
- Participates in the preparation for reporting on effectiveness of controls as required by Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
- Responsible for preparing internal management reports including legal entity reviews, ad hoc analytics, and operational insights
- Assists with reporting for bank compliance statements and governmental reporting
- Special projects or other duties as assigned

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing staff accountants (team of six)
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 8 years of financial & managerial accounting experience
- Experience in accounting ERP software; SAP experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required
- Robust internal controls understanding and documentation of relevant financial processes and transactions
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft office suits and related tools
- Experience managing staff accountants
Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Advanced Degree in Accounting and/or CPA
- Biotech/medical device and public company experience a plus, but not required; commercial and manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong communication skills, ability to present financial information in a meaningful, understandable way both internally and externally
- Ability to question norms and respectfully challenge others
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong organizational skills
- Detail oriented, ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced setting
