Mobile Adoption Coordinator - Manhattan

Schedule: Friday - Sunday 26 hours a week

Mobile Adoption Coordinator

Summary:

The Adoption Program at ACC has a goal that is simple and powerful: we are looking to help end animal homelessness in New York City by connecting people and pets for adoption. ACC employs an open adoption approach where we understand that there is no such thing as the "perfect home" and we welcome all clients as potential adopters. Using an "open adoptions" approach, the adoption process is conversation based and non-judgmental. Our focus is on matching pets with people and providing resources to continue assisting these new families post adoption.

The Mobile Adoption Coordinator is responsible for identifying and coordinating animals for adoptions, media, and outreach events. The coordinator is also responsible for helping to find new event locations and building strong partnerships within the community. This position coordinates mobile and offsite adoption events, working with adopters and volunteers. The Mobile Adoption Coordinator must be comfortable driving a 26 ft truck through the streets of New York City.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify appropriate animals for off-site adoption, outreach, and media opportunities. Coordinate all logistics for selected animals including scheduling behavior assessments, medical, and transport, and securing appropriate photographs for promotion.

  • Provide exemplary customer service to our adopters by effectively communicating and guiding them through the adoption process at offsite adoption events this includes working with adopters to find pets forever homes by accurately communicating the animals medical and behavior needs.

  • Act as an ambassador for the organization in the community by managing and strengthening partnerships with different businesses, as well as being a point of contact between ACC and the public by effectively discussing ACC's mission and the services available through ACC.

Other Tasks:

  • Work with the Foster Team to secure foster placement for animals as needed for media/event opportunities.

  • Communicate with all care center departments regarding transportation, medical, behavior and overall placement for media/event animals before and after the event.

  • Process off-site adoption paperwork at an event and upon return to the care center. This includes closing animal records, entering microchip/dog license information, processing payments and donations, etc.

  • Be able to communicate effectively to a diverse clientele.

  • Assist adoptions counselors in shelter when needed.

  • Overseeing routine maintenance of the Mobile Adoption Center which may include bringing the truck to and from scheduled appointments.

  • Supervise and provide training for volunteers at events.

  • Prepare Mobile Adoption Center for each event. Clean and restock following each event.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

$18.00 /Hour

Because ACC is a nonprofit, employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness, cancellation, and/or consolidation under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program (PSLF). Created under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, PSLF allows borrowers who work full time for nonprofits and government agencies to have their outstanding debt forgiven tax-free on Federal Direct Loans, after making 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.

Qualifications:

Comfortable working in a fast paced often high-stress ever changing environment. Customer driven and focused on providing a positive upbeat experience for all clients. A high attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and thrive working in a busy environment. Treating animals and people with respect and employ humane handling techniques whenever possible. Work well independently but also function seamlessly as a member of a team. Able to travel to multiple ACC locations and different boroughs for adoption events.

Education and Work Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required. Prior handling experience of animals of varying sizes and temperaments preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a 26 ft truck. 1 Years of experience working in customer service required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.

Work Environment:

At ACC it's all hands-on deck. We work together as a team, which means you may be asked to help with tasks that involve working outside in all sorts of weather. As a busy animal shelter in one of the biggest cities in the world it can get noisy inside. Employees should have the ability to remain calm yet professional in stressful situations involving animals and/or members of the public. ACC houses hundreds of animals in its facilities at any given time and with that comes fur, odors and other airborne particles in abundance.

ACC offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.

This position will begin at our Brooklyn Animal Care Center and will be moved in 2023
