The Ann Arbor YMCA is hiring a full-time exempt Chief Development & Engagement Officer (CDO).  At our over 165-year-old YMCA Association, we believe that our mission is achieved one person at a time and is carried out in the hearts and hands of each caring and skillful staff member.  We serve our community through a professional and passionate team that models our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.   The Ann Arbor Y is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative CDO to lead our Financial Development & Marketing departments.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Development & Engagement Officer (CDO) has the responsibility for the implementation of all the Ann Arbor YMCA’s Financial Development programs, oversight of the Marketing Department, and ensures strategic alignment through programs and expansion initiatives at the Ann Arbor Y. This includes but is not limited to Annual Campaign, Capital Campaign, Grant Management, Planned Giving, Endowment, Year End Donations, and Special Events. The CDO is responsible for the professional leadership and supervision of the Marketing Director and develops and manages the Financial Development and Marketing budgets. This key position ensures that Financial Development goals are met or exceeded each year, community engagement is prioritized and measurables are tracked to ensure organization alignment with the strategic plan. The CDO shall have a commitment to advancing a culture of philanthropy throughout the association, with all staff, volunteers, members, and program participants.


The Chief Development & Engagement is part of the senior leadership team and plays a major role in setting the marketing and fundraising direction of the Association, with their work to be supervised and directed by the CEO. The CDO also collaborates with the Board of Directors and the rest of the senior leadership team, to provide opportunities for the entire Association to become involved with and engaged in the advancement of our mission. 


The Y’s long-term goal is to position ourselves as a charity of choice and to achieve 15% of our annual revenue through philanthropy.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree required. CFRE preferred.
  2. Five (5) or more years of professional fundraising experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit field with a background of fundraising in the Y preferred.
  3. Proven ability to relate to top community leaders and to recruit and stimulate their participation in securing financial support.
  4. Clear, concise writing and public speaking skills.
  5. Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  6. Experience in all aspects of fundraising, including annual campaigns, major gifts, grant writing, online giving, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns preferred.
  7. Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  9. An extraordinary level of organization and attention to detail.
  10.  Access to transportation and the ability to travel locally and regionally on a consistent basis.
  11. YMCA Organizational Leader preferred or a commitment to achieve the certification within two years.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
  2. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. 
  3. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to twenty pounds.
  4. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  5. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  6. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
  7. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  8. Physical and mental abilities to work in a high stress, deadline rich environment.
