Position Summary
Is this position exempt from overtime pay?
Yes
Ensures proper registration and facilitates the enrollment process for English language learners (ELLs) new to AACPS. Works with the International School Counselors to coordinate English language-screening of students for the county English Language Development Office. Works as part of the IWC team to ensure that the English Language Acquisition program roster and student database is accurate and current.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Informs parents/guardians of countywide initiatives, as well as needed documents, i.e. residency, custody, etc. for student registration.
2. Evaluates transcripts/school records of the sending school to determine eligibility for high school credits awarded in accordance with MAFSA (Metropolitan Area Foreign Student Advisors) guidelines and determines appropriate grade placement in schools.
3. Maintains current database of national grading scales and foreign school system information.
4. Refers parents to appropriate agencies to obtain required immunizations for their child.
5. Provides orientation to school system by reviewing the Parent/Student Handbooks and answering questions regarding the U.S. educational system during registration.
6. Administers appropriate academic diagnostic tests, as needed and maintains the state-mandated diagnostic testing materials.
7. Completes forms (registration, emergency, etc.) needed to enroll immigrant or ELL students.
8. Informs parents of school lunch program, insurance, etc. and assists them in completing all paperwork upon registration.
9. Prepares ESOL folder insert for student cumulative folder.
10. Translates or arranges for translation of school system documents for families.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience working with English language learners and/or their parents preferred Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience working in a public school system is highly desirable.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with professional staff, students, and parents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses/Certifications
Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and have daily access to reliable transportation.
