Seeking Part-Time Interns for Local Democratic State Representative Campaign.
 
Are you looking for an opportunity to break into politics? Want to establish lasting connections and gain campaign experience? If you are interested in helping Democrats win this next election, while gaining substantial exposure to practical, campaign-style politics on a local level, then this internship is for you.
 
A local candidate for state representative is in search of hardworking, passionate future leaders who want to learn the ins and outs of local campaigning. Interning will provide hands-on experience in Democratic politics, strengthen your understanding of the political process, and prepare you for future political opportunities.
 
In addition to typical administrative duties, you will have the chance to volunteer in grassroots organizing, assist at political functions, receive personal development training, and network with local leadership and staff. A stipend will be available.
 
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
 
Our campaign is seeking motivated, resourceful, and bright individuals to work alongside a future state representative. Interns will spend time on the phone or in person with the candidate; liaise with the strategic advisor, the data strategist, and the communications staff; help manage the volunteer program; as well as gain experience in events logistics, outreach, and other functions. The ideal candidate identifies with Democratic party beliefs and ideas. 
 
Qualifications:
  • Students majoring in policy, politics, government, or other relevant coursework
  • Good communication skills and comfortable speaking with many stakeholders
  • Those who have immediate availability and capacity to intern for at least 10 hours per week (hours are flexible)
  • Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit.
 
Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Exceptional time management abilities
  • People-oriented—must enjoy interacting with people and working on a team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
  • Experience in social media platforms
  • Demonstrated interest in elections and political issues
  • Ability to conduct research
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish)
 
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Volunteer Organizing:
  • Help build and support volunteer teams using a clear process and training materials
  • Help execute volunteer-led grassroots events 
  • Assist with volunteer engagement, including communication
  • Recruit additional volunteers 
  • Attend and “staff” events

Digital Communications:
  • Draft social media and schedule posts to support campaign initiatives
  • Draft targeted emails
  • Assist with streamlining digital processes and data
  • Graphic and/or web design (depending on interest/skill)

Research:
  • Research news outlets for opponent news
  • Monitor important political developments
  • Develop and distribute a weekly report

Administrative:
  • Conducting field operations, including direct voter contact, and polling
  • Be trained by seasoned campaign operatives in campaigning best practices
  • Participate in weekly conference calls to discuss progress and game-planning
  • Data entry or other tasks as assigned by staff

 
Successful completion of internship will result in a letter of recommendation for future political work and consideration for promotion to paid staff after the primary election in August should budget allow.
