Position Summary:
The Billing Assistant is responsible for the accurate and timely submission of claims, resolving denials, and maintaining documentation to maximize revenue collections. This position will require extensive collaboration with third party payers, clients, and program staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review claims for accuracy and collaborate with program staff to resolve discrepancies prior to submission.
- Initiate appeals process for denied claims and ensure all required documentation is submitted in a timely manner to secure reimbursement.
- Review remittance advice statements for denials and adjustments on a weekly basis; gather documentation for write offs and submit for final approval.
- Maintain databases with up-to-date client and billing information.
- Maintain current knowledge of payor policies, ICD 10, and CPT Codes.
- Assist with special billing projects and check entry as needed.
- Other assignments may be added as needed or required.
Experience and Qualifications:
- High-school diploma or equivalent and minimum one-year relevant experience. Associates degree or completion of technical training or certification program with emphasis in medical billing may substitute for experience requirements.
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience working with medical billing software and EMR system, preferred.
- Knowledge of medical claims process, required.
- Ability to handle and preserve confidential and sensitive information; and follow HIPAA guidelines for protecting Personal Health Information.
- Capable of working both independently and as a member of a collaborative team, as well as communicating with individuals at all levels of the agency.
- Capable of prioritizing responsibilities, along with being able to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative and demonstrate problem solving skills.
