Irvine Company Apartment Development ( ICAD ) has redefined multi-family living in several California markets and is currently in ground-up development and construction on a number of iconic projects. This pipeline will offer a multi-project portfolio of responsibility across Orange County for the incoming Vice President, Construction.


Position Summary:

This role reports directly to the SVP of Construction, Thomas Sestak. The position will also interface with divisional executives and other Irvine Company senior executives for development and construction projects.

Job Duties:

  • Play a leadership role for the construction process for preconstruction and construction activities for multiple Apartment properties in Orange County. Oversee project delivery from design to the resolution of the final punch list across all projects.
  • Provide full construction budget oversight from inception to completion.
  • Provide buyout oversight with GC and staff to assure a timely, cost effective and quality conscience award of all scopes.
  • Develop, measure, and manage construction schedules as well as coordination activities throughout the project timeline.
  • Lead the Construction team in the interface between all stakeholders from design, development and jurisdictional players throughout the life of the project.
  • Stewardship of the permitting process across all phases of construction.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance for all project-level quality control activities, safety, reporting, and decisions.
  • Team oversight of all document revisions and change management.
  • Play a leadership role in further developing best-in-class construction methods and techniques, project controls, and project metrics that become differentiator

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:


Education:

  • Undergraduate degree required in a relevant discipline such as construction management, engineering and/or architecture or related field.


Experience:

ICAD seeks a construction leader with proven results as an industry-leading commercial construction executive. He/she will have a proven track record for flawless project execution and a reputation for delivering distinctive quality. The Vice President, Construction is a technically-credentialed, as well as passionate, leader, who will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • A 15-year plus, fully referenceable track record of Construction Management career progression and success, with demonstrated experience in managing individual projects in excess of $50 million and a multi-project management capability, across mid rise multi-family development and redevelopment product types.
  • Deep expertise in institutionalizing quality-focused integrated project management across organizations and functions.
  • A well-proven track record of quality assurance leadership.
  • A proactive quality control champion.
  • Experience working in organizations where end-user understanding and design and construction innovation are core, differentiating competencies.
  • Experience in development aspects such as financing, entitlements, and leasing will be viewed as highly desired complements to core construction management experience.
  • Demonstrated bias for speed and action and a mindset that breakthrough results are necessary and achievable; expecting ever-increasing levels of success to be reached.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strength in managing multiple outside parties on multiple projects within a matrix organization will be critical.
  • A deeply credible construction leader with a strong bias for action yet has the ability to establish the appropriate level of discipline and process in a diverse business and work effectively in a high-performing, matrix organization.
  • Strong influencing skills and yet above all, a can-do, accountable leader who leads by example and by unquestionable credibility and technical expertise.
  • Results-driven with a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and successfully execute complex construction projects.
  • Strong communicator who expresses ideas and shares perspective clearly and succinctly; is candid, direct and respectful at all levels.
