Apex Systems is seeking a Designer II near Maple Grove, MN for a contract to hire opportunity with a biomedical/biotechnology engineering firm and multinational manufacturer of medical devices.

Role: Design Egnineer

Location: Maple Grove, MN (Remote for local candidates. There are some needs to be on site when parts are finished or come in.)

Group/Team: Process Engineering

Tools/Tech/Methodology: SolidWorks

Length: 12 month contract to hire

Compensation: $65,000-$77,000K range depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, etc.

Designer II

The Design Engineer works with multiple project teams to create robust process development fixture and tooling solutions from rough engineering notes, drawings, sketches and verbal instructions in order to assist in the manufacturing of products at different stages of development. The Design Engineer will design or modify existing designs to develop or improve fixtures and tools used for development and manufacturing of products. The Design Engineer works from rough engineering notes, drawings, sketches and verbal instructions to create complex mechanical designs and CAD models. - Makes CAD models of complex assemblies detail parts of devices and mechanisms. Finally, The Design Engineer manages multiple projects at once with separate expectations and deliverables.

Responsibilities:

• Determines design characteristics such as packaging, panel/control CAD models, functional configuration and key structural design.
• Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, tooling and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, and serviceability.
• Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
• Gathers and analyzes design information, makes studies and performs research regarding materials or parts needed for design by use of applicable handbook data and good working knowledge of available catalog and standard purchase parts/components.
• Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions applicable to position and Functional responsibilities.
• Support Engineering Services Document Control with changes to CAD documentation associated with Change Requests.
• Works with machine shop to coordinate fabrication of components from design drawings.
• Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
• Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.

Skills/Experience:

• 3-5 years minimum experience
• Med device not required but candidates must understand that is the environment and must adhere to regulations/SOPs
• 3D printing experience
• Windchill or doc control systems
