API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization focused on the Asian/Pacific Islander,
Latinx, and immigrant communities of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Valley. A growing
community-based organization founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and
linguistically appropriate direct services to the most marginalized segments of our community including
low-income women, seniors, immigrants, and youth. With offices in Oakland and San Francisco, our
work is focused in the areas of Gender based Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Disability
Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth Violence Prevention, Anti API Hate
Violence, the preservation of affordable housing and small businesses, and other social justice issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide management for legal staff in Oakland Office including oversight of legal services and advocacy
work; supervision and mentoring of legal staff; coordination of pro bono projects.
2. Provide legal representation to low-income clients in the areas of housing, domestic violence/family law,
immigration, and/or elder law.
3. Develop, coordinate, and engage in outreach and advocacy work in East Bay.
4. Conduct community education, outreach and clinics at sites accessible to target communities.
5. Represent the organization at community, legal, and other meetings and functions, including meetings of
potential funders and donors.
6. Provide technical assistance and training to community agencies and partners.
7. Assist with administrative and fundraising work of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and to serving underserved API communities.
2. Strong advocacy, courtroom, and teaching skills.
3. At least five years’ experience with supervising attorneys and others engaged in social justice work; 2 years
experience managing a workplace setting including responsibility for human resources related issues.
4. Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar.
5. Bilingual and bicultural skills relevant to the low-income API and/or Latino communities.
6. Ability to work well in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Five years of litigation and/or relevant courtroom experience.
2. Experience in working with survivors of violence against women, elder abuse, or trafficking.
3. Experience with Legal Server, Excel, Essential Forms, and other legal software.
4. California’s driver’s license and own vehicle.
Hours: Minimum of 40 hours per week including some weekend and evening hours.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, based on wage scale; health insurance, paid vacation, holiday, sick
leave included.
