The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing and directing payroll procedures, ensuring compliance with laws and tax obligations supervising the payroll team, and maintaining accurate payroll records. They will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end weekly payroll process, manage payroll personnel, and provide support to the HR Department regarding employee information. In this role, the individual will report to the Controller for payroll activities. This individual will have significant exposure to the executive team for strategic planning purposes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Implements and manages payroll procedures and processing systems
Handles payroll updates for new hires, terminations, and changes of statuses
Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process, including data input, calculation, and distribution of payroll.
Review payroll data for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and implement process improvements to minimize errors.
Assists with 401-K and 941 reporting
Assists with processing invoicing for 401-k and 941 payments
Prepares payroll reports to relevant stakeholders, including finance, and HR departments.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and labor laws, stay up to date with changes.
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff, as needed
Supervise and mentor the payroll personnel team, providing guidance, training, and support to optimize payroll operations. Collaborate with the Controller to implement and improve payroll policies, procedures, and systems.
Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
Assists with processing employees W-2 for accuracy and preparation for distribution
Administer union and wage codes set-up for certified payroll jobs
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business management, accounting, or a related field
3-5 years of related experience
Prior experience in payroll processing and management with strong understanding of certified payroll, tax regulations and compliance
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred
Proven experience in payroll management and integration within a corporate setting
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with ability to work collaborative with diverse teams
Able to identify risks as well as opportunities to provide feedback on decisions affecting payroll of the company
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Proficient with payroll software
Excellent communication skills
