What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESG Data Analyst position at Apollo?
Position Overview
- Share detailed and insightful analytics on topics related to ESG reporting, financed emissions and sustainability metrics using various internal or external software and datasets
- Technically manage, analyze and interpret models and data-driven approaches for climate risk assessments and sustainable investing analytics
- Conduct data quality assurance & validation, assess and evaluate modelled results and reliability of outputs, while documenting and communicating the results in a well-organized way
- Work with various Apollo Sustainability (Climate, ESG Reporting, Sustainable Investing) and Enterprise teams (Data, Technology) to integrate and optimize data and code for automation and execution at scale, and actively improve performance of existing systems
- Support documentation of modeling practices for review processes by internal and external stakeholders
- Support exploratory data analytics; collect data for ad-hoc research requests from different business units across the Firm
- Stay up-to-date with the latest climate science and sustainable finance trends
Qualifications & Experience
- Undergraduate or Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or a similarly quantitative field
- 1-4 years of work experience. Experience in financial services or strong foundation in finance is required
- Experience with one or more statistical programming languages (R, Python, SQL) and Excel
- Experience with Data Analytics tools such as Tableau
- A strong interest and background in applying quantitative analysis in climate/sustainability; Familiarity with prevalent topics in ESG, such as climate scenario analysis, financed emissions, physical and transition risk, energy and climate policy, as well as related methodologies and initiatives/orgs (e.g., PCAF, GHGP, SBTI, TCFD, NZBA/GFANZ)
- Fast learner and a self-starter, ability to tolerate ambiguity and navigate a complex organization and sets of stakeholders
- Comfort balancing multiple priorities; strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills presenting complex analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Exposure to one or more of the following areas is a plus:
- Integrated Assessment Models
- Earth system models or other climate models
- Empirical analysis
- Emission inventories and calculations
- Environmental externalities
- Geospatial analysis tools and datasets
