Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) | Our program includes courses in grammar and applied linguistics, secondary English methods, adolescent literature, and methods in teaching composition. The Department especially seeks candidates with teaching experience in these areas. Scholarship areas may include but are not limited to English grammar, principles of language, sociolinguistics, English language pedagogy, and linguistic diversity in English language arts. A successful applicant will demonstrate the potential to maintain active research in peer-reviewed publications that indicate a progression of scholarship. An established commitment to teaching excellence and a minimum of 3 years of experience teaching secondary English language arts are essential. |

Description of the Department or Unit | The Department of English houses over 450 majors, employs 43 tenured and tenure-track faculty and approximately 50 non-tenure track faculty. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education and a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in Literary Studies, Film Studies, Creative Writing, as well as Technical and Professional Writing. The department also offers a Master of Arts in English with concentrations in Literary Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, and Teaching Literature and Writing. We are firmly committed to faculty governance, teaching excellence, active scholarship,and university and community service. The department seeks candidates who bring attributes that complement the department, program, and college's existing strengths. We are interested in faculty members who have cultivated skills to communicate with, teach, and support others who do and do not share aspects of their own identity. ABD Description |
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered. |
