Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of fundraising principles and strategies.
  • Experience using and/or working with CRM tools, GiveCampus, Anthology, or Canva.
  • Experience with writing and editing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Leadership Annual Gifts Officer (LAGO) plays an integral role in developing and implementing the annual giving strategy for University Advancement. Annual giving allows donors to express their loyalty and builds a pipeline for major giving to the university. Specific responsibilities for the LAGO include navigating donor prospects and donors through the donor cycle - identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship.
The Leadership Annual Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of assigned donors, as well as a discovery list. The LAGO will use email, phone, video conferencing, and personal visits to develop relationships with donors and donor prospects resulting in new or increased support to the university.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving donor prospects and donors. Navigate these donor prospects and donors through the donor cycle - identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Prospect Management and Research to identify and qualify prospective leadership annual giving prospects.
  • Effectively use available resources and appropriately document all donor outreach, communication, and moves management.
  • Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of giving opportunities across the university. Develop a network of contacts across the university for resources, information, and collaboration on giving opportunities for leadership annual giving donors.
  • Assist with developing and implementing strategies for building a culture of philanthropy on our campuses among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with developing and implementing strategies for increasing annual giving among specific audiences, including but not limited to students, young alumni, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with planning and implementing a successful annual day of giving.
  • Transition donor prospects and donors to Major Gift Officer colleagues, as appropriate based on giving capacity and inclination exceeding leadership annual giving level.
  • Follow procedures to ensure accurate gift processing, accounting, recording, documentation, acknowledgment, and follow-up.
  • In partnership with the Office of Donor Stewardship and leadership, create and implement stewardship program for leadership annual giving donors, to include annual giving society members.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and performance evaluations with leadership to ensure progress towards annually established goals.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, colleagues, and volunteers.
  • Regular travel is necessary for this position, requiring flexibility in work hours to include evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Position is located on the Appalachian State University campus in Boone, NC.
