Employee is responsible for performing a multitude of services related to parking and traffic control on the Appalachian State University campus.
These services include:
Prefer at least one (1) year of work experience with a parking services operation at a university, municipality, or hospital.

Work Schedule/Hours
The standard weekday schedule for normal duties is Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. However, additional hours are frequently required to provide coverage for special events at night and on weekends. Events such as football games, concerts, and graduation ceremonies typically require working on Saturdays for an additional 10 – 12 hours. Work weeks that exceed 50 hours are fairly common, particularly during the fall semester.

Physical Demands of Position
Employee must be capable of standing and walking on pavement for extended periods of time, and doing so in very harsh weather conditions, including rain, sleet, snow, high wind, and bitterly cold temperatures. 10 to 12 hour days are not uncommon while working special events on campus. Employee must also be capable of applying and removing a wheel immobilization device, as well as lifting and placing sign barricades, crowd control barriers, and traffic cones weighing as much as 30 lbs. on a repetitive basis.

Security, Patrol, and Enforcement: 1. Patrols, monitors, and guards an area with a higher assessed risk. 2. Issues warnings or citations. Assists in emergency response. 3. Provides support for special events; controls and directs traffic of people and vehicles; erects barricades; provides motorist assistance.
Communication: 1. Communicates regarding issues that require some judgment or interpretation. Explains policies, rules, and regulations with tact and courtesy. 2. Completes reports; writes citations. 3. Interacts with co-workers, supervisors, emergency response personnel, university officials, and the general public to provide assistance and relay information.
Decision Making: 1. Analyzes situations in order to make quick, sound decisions; recognizes critical incidents; initiates action based upon acquired information and knowledge of operating procedures.
Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.

Employee is responsible for performing a multitude of services related to parking and traffic control on the Appalachian State University campus.
These services include:
- Issuing parking citations
- Immobilizing vehicles with mechanical booting devices
- Arranging for the towing of vehicles
- Controlling parking for various University events
- Providing limited assistance to stranded motorists on campus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with no major violations, and possess the driving skills necessary to operate patrol vehicles safely in very confined parking areas with high volumes of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Must have impeccable customer service skills, as employee will be frequently welcoming very special guests to the campus, such as trustees, high level donors, and other dignitaries.
- Must have the ability to perform duties in stressful situations, including working outdoors for long hours while enduring extreme weather conditions.
- Employee must possess the level of technical skill necessary to operate advanced parking software applications, such as those used for the department’s License Plate Recognition system.
- Must also possess, or have the ability to earn and maintain a Traffic Control Certificate.
