What are the responsibilities and job description for the UI/UX Designer position at Applied Research Solutions?
Applied Research Solutions is seeking a full-time UI/UX Designer to support the Air Force Institute of Technology located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead practitioner of User Centered Design and User Experience for new projects and existing products
- Works closely with the Product Owner, End Customer and End Users to balance needs and wants into Initiatives, Epics and Stories.
- Works closely with the Development team to refine Epics and User Stories into incremental functionality that provide benefit to the End User in a timely manner.
- Create designs that align with the user needs; prepare interaction diagrams, mockups and wireframes
- Presents design work to team members for review and feedback
- Plans and defines strategy for the direction of future iterations
- Conduct testing to ensure that the developed functionality meets the user’s needs.
- Develops and maintains detailed user-interface specifications
- Delivers presentations and workshops on User Experience and Use Centered Design to audiences of varied experience
- Serve as a teacher/mentor for developers and other UX designers, contributing to the group’s shared knowledge of user-centered design and UX
- Other duties as assigned
Technical Experience Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Thorough understanding of User Centered Design and ability to conduct new or experienced teams through the process.
- Understanding of graphic design and UI design concepts, and human factors for software applications.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other UI development tools.
- Innovative and creative outlook.
- Excellent writing, communication, presentation, and storytelling skills. Comfortable speaking to a large audience.
- Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
- Experience in an Agile/Scrum software development.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar role.
- Bachelor's degree in graphics design, computer science, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with a variety of design and prototyping tools such as AdobeXD, Figma, Miro, Mural.
- Familiar with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript development or working with Developers who use the same.
- A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions.
- Experience designing software products for desktop browser applications.
Preferred qualifications:
- 7 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar role
- Familiar with designing for JavaScript frameworks and libraries (e.g. Angular, React, VUE, Material UI)
- Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and organizational skills
- Experience designing software products for mobile applications
