Summary:
The Assembly Technician III will assist the Applied Spectra technical teams in all activities related to, and in support of, manufacturing and prototyping efforts towards Applied Spectra’s commercial business and research activity. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have the ability to work under general direction without detailed supervision, and must also have thoroughness and attention to detail in their work. The Assembly Technician III is a higher-level role and is expected to handle complex issues and problems, only referring the most complex issues to higher-level staff. This position will report directly to the manufacturing manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The Assembly Technician will be required to:
- Follow written documentation (Work Instructions, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.) to assemble Electromechanical and Electro-Optical assemblies including instrument chassis, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and wiring harnesses
- Assist in writing manufacturing documentation to meet manufacturing and Quality System requirements
- Provide feedback to assist in the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes in accordance with Quality System standards
- Working with R&D team to build prototype and custom systems
- Provide feedback to R&D team to modify and improve prototype design
- Provide training to manufacturing staff on assembly processes and procedures
- Adhere to general safety rules and manufacturing best practices
Key Competencies:
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical documentation including assembly drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools including soldering stations, crimpers, drills, saws etc.
- Able to adjust to constant change/ need from R&D team
- Process documentation
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or Google equivalent
- Communication skills (verbal and written)
Education:
Minimum of a High School Diploma. Associate’s (AA) degree in a technical field such as Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent is preferred
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing environment
- Prior military experience is a plus
- Familiarity with lab and testing equipment including DVM’s, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems is a plus
- Prior experience working in an ISO or a GMP environment is a plus
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently or in small cross-functional teams
- Excellent manual dexterity with the ability to lift at least 50lbs
Work Environment:
This job operates in a casual office environment with a manufacturing and warehouse space. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Additionally, this role is required to use lifts and hand and power tools.
