Job Summary
Aptive Resources is seeking a skilled and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our team supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in providing both basic and complex therapeutic procedures for adult and geriatric patients. This role involves evaluating clinical data, assisting in formulating respiratory care plans, and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Data Review:
- Collect, review, and evaluate relevant clinical data from medical records, care team, patient, and patient’s family to ensure appropriate care when indicated.
Therapeutic Procedures:
- Perform both basic and complex therapeutic procedures for adult and geriatric patients, including monitoring patients receiving mechanical ventilation and assisting with bronchoscopy.
- Use techniques that include interpretation of clinical data, describing and interpreting arterial blood gas values, and understanding acid-base balance.
Patient Care and Assessment:
- Apply clinical expertise to enhance patient care and assist providers in formulating appropriate respiratory care plans based on patient assessment, history, lung auscultation, chest x-ray, pulse oximetry, etc.
- Communicate changes in the respiratory care plan and/or patient status to other healthcare team members as appropriate.
Recommendations and Education:
- Make recommendations to providers regarding changes in treatment based on patient observation and diagnostic test values.
- Provide effective and relevant education to the patient, family, students, and facility staff when appropriate.
Diagnostic and Emergency Procedures:
- Perform both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures.
- Conduct emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines and industry standards.
Quality Assurance and Improvement:
- Actively participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital organizational performance improvement initiatives.
- Comply with all medical center policies and procedures regarding safety practices and demonstrate working knowledge of the appropriate safety protocols.
Equipment Management:
- Assemble, check, correct malfunctions, and perform quality controls on respiratory care equipment.
Professional Development:
- Maintain clinical and professional competency based on established standards of practice.
- Participate in in-service education related to respiratory therapy and maintain a close relationship with other disciplines and students who may rotate through the health care facility.
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Background:
- Successful completion of a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor.
Licensure and Credentialing:
- Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as an RRT from a state.
- Valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT.
- Ability to pass any required government background checks
Skills and Abilities:
- Skill in performing therapeutic modalities related to respiratory care.
- Ability to collaboratively consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to help provide favorable patient outcomes.
- Skill in assessing oxygenation and ventilation.
- Ability to perform airway management, including artificial airways and mechanical ventilation.
