Job Summary
Aptive Resources seeks a Communications Specialist to work on several large and complex communications support efforts for federal clients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for articulating an agency’s mission and uniqueness to diverse audiences within the federal government, industry, and general public and possess a strong background managing large and small projects in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will work with clients to understand communications requirements and develop plans of action to elevate the clients’ profiles among target audiences. Responsibilities also include overseeing and directing communications efforts to meet deliverables and performing assignments within project constraints.
This is a full-time, remote work position with the possibility of occasional on-site meetings at client locations in the Washington, D.C. area. It is a contingent hire position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop cohesive branding and supporting materials for federal clients.
- Create campaigns aimed at specific audiences, including congress and federal stakeholders, that explain and illustrate policy, competitive advantages, key themes, and others.
- Develop various communications plans, such as Crisis Communications Plans, Outreach and Engagement Plans, and Video Planning efforts.
- Assist clients with outreach, engagements, and events.
- Oversee development of ongoing communications products, including talking points, organic social media, infographic copy, printed materials, web content, and others.
- Analyze organizational-specific policy issues to identify and anticipate communication needs and potential reaction from stakeholders, including congressional, media, non-governmental, state, local and tribal, and other stakeholder communities.
- Identify changing policies and laws and their effect on client stakeholder initiatives, and the best way to communicate these requirements and operational impacts.
- Advise clients on best practices in communications, particularly around complex and sometimes controversial issues.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with subject matter experts, sector communications offices, and agency offices that work on congressional, public, and intergovernmental affairs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, business, management, or related field.
- 6-8 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to thrive in a remote environment.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

- Demonstrated expertise in developing communications campaigns and materials for federal customers.
- Experience reaching key audiences on Capitol Hill.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high-level attention to detail and ability to carry out multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with a project team and senior-level stakeholders.
- Ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
