Responsibilities

We are seeking a Telemetry-focused Field Service Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL supporting our DOD customers as part of Arcfield’s Hypersonics Business Unit.

Arcfield’s Hypersonics Test & Evaluation (T&E) unit provides support services and solutions for ballistic and hypersonic test missions at DoD, NASA, and other agency ranges around the world including broad ocean areas.  We deliver mission planning, logistics, network and systems engineering, telemetry, data and voice communications, and cybersecurity support.  Our team of mission focused, collaboration minded, enthusiastic professionals bring the benefits of their unique and diverse skill sets to bear on some of the most engaging and difficult challenges available in the missile testing community. 

In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a team responsible for deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and integrating range instrumentation systems to support our Army and Navy customers in meeting their T&E objectives. 

  • Support local and off-site testing operations, including configure, operate, maintain and test computer-based electronic data reduction and telemetry equipment used to acquire, process and display flight-test data both in real-time and post-mission to support flight-testing.
  • Perform other technical functions as required, to include system installation, modifications, troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Applies practical knowledge of electronics/ electrical engineering to problems encountered in the design and installation of flight test instrumentation e.g., accelerometers, strain gauges, thermocouples, rate gyros, and pressure transducers, pulse-coded modulation (PCM) data acquisition systems, and data reduction hardware (e.g., bit syncs and decoms).
  • Responsible for the planning, designs and directs the installation, calibration, and operation of ground based and airborne flight test instrumentation.
  • Support various types of flight testing by attending planning meetings, design reviews, and readiness committees.
  • Assist flight test engineers in analyzing test data for the purpose of ensuring data accuracy and quality.

Travel is frequent and extensive (CONUS and OCONUS), and work is generally performed at customer sites. Trip durations are dependent on customer test mission schedules which can change with short notice. Travel typically lasts between 2 and 4 weeks. Frequency of trips is dependent on test mission schedules but generally range between 4 and 8 trips per year.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 0-2 years of related experience; High School diploma (or equivalent) with 6 years of experience
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of serial telemetry data formats
  • Experience that demonstrates ability to convert raw flight test data into a format usable by flight-test engineers
  • Experience using standard tools to fabricate cables, install/modify hardware, etc.
  • Experience using standard test equipment, including but not limited to voltmeters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and power meters
  • Must BE ABLE TO OBTAIN and maintain a Secret clearance 

 Desired Qualifications

  • Experience producing drawings using a CAD tool such as Autocad™
  • Experience sailing on a vessel
