Job Description 

Summary/objective

The Associate Director of Family Ministry assists Families of Parishes in their work to support families (Marker 7.1) by providing training, resources, and referrals to offer support groups, workshops, events, and other ministries. This Mission Direct position is responsible for the promotion of Marriage as a second catechumenate and the formation and strengthening of the Domestic Church (Action Step 1.3). The Associate Director works to support Directors of Family Ministry, Family Support Coordinators, and other parish staff and volunteers working to build the domestic Church and aid families in difficult circumstances.


Essential functions

Oversee and support diocesan marriage and family ministries.
Meet regularly with Directors of Family Ministry and other marriage and family ministry staff and volunteers in Families of Parishes to offer formation, resources, and support.
Launch and support Marriage Ministry initiatives (NFP, marriage preparation, enrichment, and support), Family Ministry initiatives (building the domestic Church, infant baptism, and families), and Family Support Ministry in Families of Parishes.
Research and identify key effective resources and enrichment opportunities for Families of Parishes to expand their ministries to families.
Provide tools, training, and support to ministers within Family of Parishes to aid in identifying the needs of each community and how to best serve families within the community.
Host archdiocesan events for marriage and families.
Build and maintain a list of active support groups and support ministries at Families of Parishes.
Collaborate with the Office of Evangelical Charity to coordinate supports provided to Families of Parishes to meet specific needs within each community.
Collaborate with the Office of Discipleship Formation to identify and coordinate resources, formation and support for Families who have children with disabilities.
Provide ongoing Natural Family Planning training and support for NFP teachers, single women, and couples.
Build and maintain resources and training opportunities to form families at all stages of life in the area of holistic sexuality and human development.
Collaborate with co-workers within all five Mission Direct areas (Engagement, Discipleship Formation, Evangelical Charity, and Sacred Worship), Cultural Ministries and other departments within the Curia to identify growing or changing needs of families within Families of Parishes and offer support for events and projects as needed.

Physical demands

Position requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.  May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing/or pulling of objects and materials (5-50 pounds).  May involve extended periods of time standing or sitting at a keyboard or workstation.  May involve repetitive motion (i.e., typing).  May involve walking long distances.


Travel required
Up to 50% within the Archdiocese and occasional travel outside the Archdiocese.  Attendance at out of state conferences may be required.


Required education and experience

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Marriage and Family ministry.
Must demonstrate an understanding of the Catholic Church’s teaching on Marriage and the Family and the Theology of the Body as revealed in Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Must be knowledgeable of secular and religious organizations that provide assistance to families.
Must be trained as an NFP instructor in an approved method of NFP.

Preferred education and experience

Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Catechesis or Pastoral Ministry, Master of Arts preferred
Five years’ ministry experience

Additional eligibility requirements

Certificate of completion of Protecting God’s Children or willingness to attend workshop.
Able to work some evenings and weekends.
Must have experience with Office 365.
